Has anyone here taken an antidepressant while BF? I still have some bouts of depression since having the baby (we are 2 months pp) and am thinking about taking meds. I took Zoloft a few years ago and it helped me a lot, but I am hesitant to try it again b/c I am BF. Anyone have any xperience with this?

Thanks anyway, April. I looked it up on Kellymom and Zoloft is very safe while bf- actually considered the best antidepressant to take while bf. I am still not sure if I want or need to go back on it, but it is good to know that it is relaively safe if I decide to do so.

Don't you just love Kellymom. Talking here is great but when I need to know for sure, I always go to Kellymom.

Christy I take zoloft, not on a regular basis like i'm supposed to though. The ped knows and didn't say anything about it and the ob/gyn who renewed my prescription for it said that it sometimes it can cause the baby not to thrive. But we all thought it would be better to take that chance, which she is fine, and we watched her closely, then for me to get supper depressed because I have the tendency to get depressed and to not be able to take care of her at all. But all is well with me and with her.

Thanks for sharing, Sarahsmommy. I guess out of all the antidepressants, Zoloft transfers the least into b___stmilk. In the few studies they have done, the drug was not even detected in most infants whoes mothers were taking up to 150mg/day of the drug. (I only took 40 mg/day.) April- Yeah, I like kellymom too. I have it bookmarked in IE along with this website. :)
