I am planning to rent the Medala Classic from the hospital in the beginning since I don't want to invest a huge amount in a br___t pump right off the bat in case it doesn't work out. Has anyone used this and if so, what do you think of it?

I think that's the one I used. Is it blue? I rented mine the first few weeks to see if I liked pumping. They charged me like $30 a month to use it so I figured I might as well buy a pump so I found a used Medela Pump In Style at a children's exchange store for $79.00 and it works awesome! I use it at work and home every day. Plus I got to keep the collection kit the hospital gave me with their pump so I have extras of everything, which is convenient as hell. The Pump In Style is the next model down from the hospital grade one and works great for working moms. I can fill both bottles in like 15 minutes.

Yep it worked great! But the Pump In Style worked exactly the same and comes in a nice black carry case. Looks like a purse. The one I got from the hospital came in this big blue plastic deal and was huge! But yes, it worked great but find out how much they're going to charge you to use it. It might be worth buying one or look into a used one on E-bay.

I use the medela hospital pump angela, and it works great. I also tried the pump in style, while it looks better and is more compact, it did not work as well for me. I like the hosp. grade model because it is efficient and fast at expressing milk. Also, sometimes insurance companies cover the cost of renting the pump. If you have health insurance, I would look into it.

My insurance paid for my collection kit but not the rental. I couldn't tell the difference between my pump and the hospital grade pump.

I rented the Medela Cla__sic for $75 per month from the hospital. Yikes! I like it, but it's rather c_mbersome. This pump is like a boat anchor. It's really heavy and is not something that you would take out of the house like a portable pump, or even move from room to room within your house. Also, I cannot image how anyone can use anything other than the minimum suction setting. Minimum suction works fine for me! The main advantage to this pump is that is is "rentable" and allows double pumping. Believe it or not, I actually get the same amount of milk (and sometimes more) with my Avent Isis hand pump in the same amount of time as the hospital pump. Therefore, I plan to return the Medela Cla__sic to the hospital this week.

Just to clarify - my hand pump is the simple Avent Isis single pump, not the new Avent Isis dual pump. Mine was about $40 when I bought it three years ago with my first baby.

JL- Thanks for the info. I have the Avent Isis and was thinking about renting an electric to see if I'd like it. I was hoping that I could pump faster with an electric, but it sounds like maybe not. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, its so weird about that little Avent manual pump, isn't it? Everyone I know who has one is totally amazed at how much milk they get with it and how easy it is to use. The only disadvantage is that you can't pump both sides at once. But I have not ever found that to be an issue. I like that it is so small. I can throw it in one of those insulated lunch bags and I am all set!

My husband actually produces it! I have yet to get one (I am due in 4 weeks), but he gave one to my cousin who loved it. She had already gone through 2 other ones and said that was definitely the best.
