My little girl has just started refusing one of my br___ts. She cries and turns her head away when I put her on the right side but latches right on to the left. What would be causing this?

Maybe the preferred b___st produces more milk or lets down more quickly?

My cousin would only take one side and they took her to the doctor and did some tests and found out that something in her right side was out of place from birth this probably isnt it if she took it before

It seems like I have enough milk on my right side. I can had express it easily. I thought that maybe something could be hurtingnd her when she laid on that side. Thanks for responding Christy and Jess.

Could it be the way you hold her?

my daughter prefers one side, my b___stfeeding support worker said just like we are left or right handed they like to lie one side, they told me to rugby feed on the side they dont like under arm then they are liying on same side of body

My daughtert perfers my right b___st, but will also nurse on the left just not as often. I have read that if you have a b___st infection(mastsis)(sp?) that a baby may refuse to nurse on the infected b___st.

L, MY SON PREFERS MY LEFT BREAST. THIS IS BECAUSE MY RIGHT NIPPLE DOESNT GET AS BIG AS THE LEFT, THEREFORE ITS ALOT HARDER FOR HIM TO LATCH ON TO IT. I TRY TO AT LEAST HAVE HIM ON THE RIGHT SIDE FOR A LITTLE BIT. THIS COULD BE YOUR CASE. :-))

It could be a positioning problem. Are you right or left handed? What are the differences in the way you hold her on each side? Try to make the position at the refused side as similar as you can to the side she likes. Ues pillows for extra support. Always offer the side she doesn't like first, when she is hungriest. If she's too frustrated, nurse on the side she likes for just a bit to calm her and then switch to the unliked side.
