My baby boy is 18 days old. I have been feeding him on demand. As soon as he appears hungry I offer him my br___t. The night before last he slept for 5 hours and last night he slept for 6.5 hours. Is it too soon for me to let him go so long without eating? Should I wake him to feed or is it okay to wait until he wakes himself?

I would let sleeping babies lie.

You should not let him (at that age) sleep over 4 hours without eating. That is what I was told by the nurses and my ped.

It depends on the kid - E. As long as the baby is having regular bowel movements and wetting 6-8 diapers a day and seems content, I'd let him sleep. My larger babies never nursed as often as my smaller ones and slept longer at night, too.

He is a big boy. 8lbs 13oz. Maybe that is why he sleeps so long sometimes. He does have plenty of pees and poops. I just don't know. I feel kind of guilty letting him sleep so long because I always read that babies eat about every 3 hours, but that sleep was just so nice.

My theory is to never wake a sleeping baby. My daughter slept a long block each day and I was terrified to let her go more than 3 hours without eating. My pediatrician, however, said as long as she is peeing, to let her sleep and feed her when she woke up.
