Don't worry - time will work just fine. Or, if you want, pump and freeze. It'll take about 3 days, as I recall, for it to not hurt so bad.

that's about right...I think the first week was rough for me ,but then you'll be just fine:) just let your baby eat ALL the time and don't let her go for more than 2 hrs. or so between feedings :)

If your engorgement is too much to take try this: Buy an organic green cabbage. Remove ans discard the outer leaves. Pull off 2 leaves with out ripping them apart. Lay them on the counter like a bowl and flatten them one at a time with a rolling pin. (This will open the veins of the leaf.) Then put one in each of your bra cups. There is something in the cabbage juice that causes the milk production to slow down. Don't leave them on for too long or you will decrease production too much. Some women use this meatiod when weaning to help dry up. Hope this helps. It worked for me.

I would recommend agaimst the cabbage leaf advice. At this point, you need to leave your supply alone and let your baby regulate it for you.

Thanks guys. I used ice packs yesterday and fed baby ALL the time even through the night and it seems better today. Thanks for your help.

Nurse as much as possible =) If baby has probs latching on pump a little to shape nipple and soften b___st. A warm compress can help with the pain. Don't have one around? A NB diaper works great!! Just fill it with water and microwave it to desired temperature.

I took Tylenol or Advil to help relieve the pain. A good nursing bra helped too. I sometimes would use a manual pump to relieve the pressure a bit so my baby could latch on better.

you get engorged because your body doesnt know how much milk to make at this point. In order for baby to b___stfeed you need to ma__sage your b___sts and either pump for a minute (till your b___sts get softer) or do it with your fingers to help let go the milk. You need to continue b___stfeeding so that your milk supply stablize. If you start just pumping and feeding baby with the bottle, your baby most likely will prefer bottle vs b___st since its much easier to drink from the bottle. Engorgement will go away within a week or two. Good luck!
