I'm going to be induced Sept, 25, a week and a half before my due date, my question is will my milk come in, also is it just a good to pump the milk in a bottle as it would be if I put the baby to my br___t I heard it's not good to do both because the baby will get confused, I just want the benifits of br___t feeding, and not so much to have the baby on my br___t, I'm so scared I'm not going to be able to do it and live a normal life, I gave up after 2 weeks the first time cause my br___t a big, will I look normal in my clothes again, someone just give me a little confindence about this, and I do tend to occasionally drink how much milk will I hafta throw away and will I be able to go out to a club without leaking, sorry if any of these questions sound stupid, but your opions will be appreciated Thanks

Yes your milk will come in three to four days after delivery. But the milk which comes in first is coloustrm(sp). I have known some people to bottlefeed with b___stmilk only,no b___st. A persom nac live a normal life with bfing at the b___st,it is more convient. always the right temp. no botttles to wash, you loose the weight faster. I could go on and on. As for the milk you can freeze it in a deep freezer for 6 months. Fridge freezer for I believe 3 months. The way to thraw milk is in hot water changing it every two minutes till it is thrawed it doesn't take much to thraw. Never thraw in the microwave you will loose nutrients in the b___st milk. As fo leaking b___st pads work best. I never liked the disapositables ones they leaked try buying ones you can wash with a slightly waterproof backing on them. I was a mother who br two chioldren two years apart.

Yes, Your milk will come it. Probably 3 days after delivery. You will have colostrom until them. Pumping and feeding baby by bottle can be done. However, it will be hard to pump colostrom and feed in bottle. It is too thick and probably would be hard to save in a container. You can do both. My daughter did very well switching back and forth. I think the time you run into a problem is if you exclusively nurse from the b___st for several months and decide to switch. I gave my daughter her first bottle of b milk at 3 weeks of age (I had to go back to work) and she did fine adjusting. Just make sure you pump enough to cover all bottle fed feedings so you keep up your milk supply. And like lisa said you can freeze it. Don't be alarmed if you get a thick creamy substance on top. The milk is not homogonized like milk you get from the store so the fats will separate. When warmed shake bottle well and everything will mix up again. My mil dumped bottles of milk out because she thought it was spoiled. She thought the cream was curtled milk. Just thought you should know. Lots of Luck and enjoy your little one when he/she arrives. They grow up way too fast.

OMG that must have been terrible for you to learn your MIL dumped a good portion of your milk down the drain. To C Please get the help you need with bf if you decide to bf at your b___st it is a learned experience for the both of you. . You can also read different threads on bf to get alot more info which you might find helpful. Maybe there will be something there you will read which might help you in the future. Good luck with the delivery tomorrow. I was induced with both my boys. Take care.

To to kc - Yes!!! I love my mil to pieces, but she hated the idea of nursing. She found fault with it all the time. She even kept formula at her house and fed it to my newborn without my knowledge. Even after I told her my milk was not "spoiled" she didn't beleive me. After a month she did belive me and everything was okay. To C. Just go into it with the att_tude if it works it works if it doesn't it doesn't. I was unsure at first. Use the nurses they will help you. The first 6 weeks are the worst. If you can make it that far you have it licked. Stay on here there is a great support system here for you. I'm sorry you have to go thru such a horrible time and so close to delivering your baby. Keep your chin up. Horrible times make us stronger and do what is best for you and your little one.

i am also b___stfeeding and i have started going back to school which is a couple of hours a day three times a week. my baby is now 16 days old and the first time he had b___stmilk in a bottle he was four days old and he did not get confused at all. They're alot smarter than you think they are..as for pumping the milk out and using a bottle as long as ur taking the milk out you will make more and you will still leak if you don't pump on a regular basis. With my daughter she couldn't drink out of a bottle or b___st so i pumped and put it in her feeding tube and i still got engorged and leaked all over the place so i don't think that it really matters. I find b___stfeeding alot more convenient than bottle feeding the b___st milk - especially in the middle of the night. Baby is 16 days old and i am just starting to adjust to his milk needs and not leaking as much. As for drinking goes you should pump enough for 24 hours and then pump out the milk and get rid of it for 24 hours after you've been out. That's what i was told.

I would think b___stfeeding would be easier than pumping and bottlefeeding, but that is better than formula. As for drinking, you can drink occasionally (1-2 drinks) without problem. If you plan to do more, just have enough mil for baby to drink during that time. You don't have to pump and dump, just wait until you feel sober to nurse (alcohol leaves the milk at the rate it leaves the blood, so when you feel sober, most alcohol is out of the milk). You may have to pump if you get engourged and uncomfortable and will need to dump that if you're still "under the influence". In the other post on alcohol and b/f, there is a link to a chart of how long it takes for the alcohol to completely exit your system, based on size and # of drinks. As far as leaking, I use lansinoh b___st pads, they are really absorbant and don't show through clothes as much. After a little while (weeks-months?), you'll stop leaking all together. I produce a lot of milk, though, so that is probably why I leaked longer. Don't worry, once you get used to nursing, it is so convenient-no bottles, nothing to take along, etc. Good luck!

Thanks for the fast answers, well I had my little girl, I put her to the b___st the first day the laching on takes time and hurts, and these swollen b___st takes the best out of you and I've never had small b___st anyways but now they are really big. So your saying later the milk supply will be greater enough to fell a 4oz bottle? it seems like it takes forever to pump

congratulations on your baby girl! how are things going so far with nursing? i had a much easier time nursing my second baby, and now baby number 3 (born sept 1st) is a breeze! well... i was still engorged and sore for a week or so, but it got better. early pumping can be difficult for some people, your supply is still trying to regulate. give it a little more time, you'll see an improvement. you can e-mail me too, support is very important. mrsmaleficent@myway.com

Well it's been going ok, I let my sister feed her from a bottle for the first time and she did ok, it seems like she nurse more at night than day. I just want to have a couple of drinks when I occasionally go out but just scared cause I don't know how to do it with this b___st feeding, so that kinda keep me from feeling normal sometimes

Maleficent - October 9

there is no reason you cant go have a few drinks. this site's information on alcohol and b___stfeeding is very good. you don't have to pump and dump. alcohol metabolizes out of your blood stream and b___stmilk, just give baby a bottle while your feeling tipsy. soon as you sober up you can nurse again. some women pump and dump anyways but all research shows that it's not nessisary. just have some expressed milk at the ready and enjoy yourself.

C - October 9

Thanks, Maleficent, because I dumped but was still worried, if I done the right thing
