Growth Spurt Pumping Pain

So, Ben recently finished a growth spurt and in addition to feeding him more frequently during that time, I was pumping once a day for a few days to collect milk for an outing Saturday night. Anyway, while I was at this reception Saturday night, my br___ts were so incredibly engorged and painful. They kept letting down because people kept hugging me or a child would cry. I was miserable and after an hour and a half of this, I was nauseated and anxious to go back to my parent's and be with/feed Ben. I am still fuller than usual and have been having some pain and hard lumps in my br___ts that go away after nursing. So my questions are: 1.) Has this happened to anyone, especially the nausea and strong urge to go back to the baby as well as engorgement after growth spurt? 2.) Should I have expressed or pumped while I was at the wedding reception to prevent the engorgement? We were gone a max of 3 or 3.5 hours, missing one feeding.

BTW- the nausea, which reminded me of morning sickness, went away after I fed Ben.

I know how you feel as I've pumped so we can be gone all afternoon shopping and I can bottle feed her while we're gone but my b___sts get engorged sometimes and if I'm feeding her a bottle my b___sts leak! They hurt too but I've never experienced any nausea with it. Some days are worse than others. Now this morning I feel engorged and they hurt and I just fed her like less than two hours ago so I think I'll pump. Some days I don't notice it at all, like my milk production is low. If I drink tons of water I notice the engorgement more the following day.

Yep...I pumped every day for a week for an all-day outing with a friend; by the end of the day, I had to call it quits; we had gone shopping for clothes and I couldn't try anything on, my b___sts were so sore, plus milk would spray everywhere the minute they jiggled. It took about a week to go back to normal.

Whenever I am away from the baby for a feeding, I bring a hand pump in my purse. As soon as I start to feel engorged I excuse myself to the restroom or somewhere and pump just enough to relieve the engorgement. I haven't let myself get engorged since Blake was about 3 weeks, because at that time I developed Mast_tis and that was very painful and unpleasant. I got the Mast_tis from skipping a feeding so that I could rest. I was really exhausted one night and slept while hubby gave a bottle of preexpressed milk, when I woke up my b___st were sore and swollen. That day I developed a hard/hot spot that didn't want to go away it brought fever, chills, & my whole body ached. I had to be treated with antibiotics. Anyhow... moral of the story don't skip a feeding without expressing... even if you have to do it by hand in the restroom.

The exact thing happened to me at a wedding. I made such a huge effort to pump and make arrangements for someone to care for my daughter. I was so uncomfortable and unhappy at the wedding and I was surprised to find out that other people had brought babies and children. I leaked so much from the babies crying that I had to borrow a shawl from someone to hide what was coming through my dress. Now I just take her everywhere with me. No one ever says anything about it. If she gets fussy and it is a quiet place then I leave. We are both happier with this arangement. I get more done, don't have the stress of separation, and my b___sts don't suffer. She gets what she needs without needless stress.
