please please please go to a b___stfeeding support worker if there are some at your maternity unit or go back to bthe hospital and get the midwifes to help, dont give up if you want to b___st feed, my baby is 6 weeks old now but i was in agony at the beginning, i cried and cried shouting at my dh for bringing our daughter to feed, she fed and fed it felt like razor blades cutting me, but even when i was cracked dry bleeding when i went to a b___stfeeding support group they latched her on and it didnt hurt, what helped me lots was to change positions, i started feeding rugby style under the arm, this puts pressure in a different area oif the nipple to give it a chance to heal, i never tried them but heard other women rave about nipple shealds, but for me it didnt matter how much info i read it killed me, i think you need practical help, please go find a midwife to help and kep going to them till it starts to get better, i love it now, its so nice to feel im feeding her and she loves it, but it is hard to start with, i used kamilosan which i found better than lansinoh, also try to air your nippoles and put lots of cream on before bath so they dont dry out, good luck

or buy a pump and try expressing and feeding till your nipples heal, but my midwives said the only way you toughen them up is to feed!!!

Emilie, hang in there, Zein is now weeks and I remember hating b___stfeeding because it was so painful. I would cringe and tear everytime I put her to my b___st, and my nipples were blistered. What April and Lisa are saying is very good advice, call a lactation specialist or the La Leche people they can really help, especially with the latch. I use Palmer's Cocoa B___ter Nipple Cream but also heard lansinoh is good as well as Gerber's Nipple Cream, especially that you don't have to wash it off before feeding. Best of luck and please please please, don't give up, I'm loving it now (when I'm not worried that she's not getting enough or when I have to do it in public!)

That cream lisa said is a god send! I used it by chance adn its the best thing I have ever bought. Only cost me £5. I was close to giving up when I first started feeding my daughter, but once the latching was correct it was a ton easier. I give up feeding my oldest son and regret it.

When I first started b___stfeeding it hurt so bad I cried with some of the feedings..my nipples were blistered and bleeding..but I gritted my teeth through the feedings and didn't give up...and I am SO glad I didn't! I just kept reminding myself how much better it was for Tasia to b___stfeed...and it got better after probly 10-14 days. Tasia is 6 weeks now and everything is great.

I had the same problem. You need to let it heal. Air is the best medicine. Go out and buy a b___st shell and wear it in your bra. This way the fabric/pad is not touching your b___st and air will always be on your nipple. It's kind of like when you wear a bandaid and the cut doesn't dry/heal completly until you take off that bandaid. A little blood will not hurt the baby but I had trouble with this too. I started to pump and would dump the milk that had blood in it. I think I stopped bleeding in a day or two once I figured out to let it air out. Eventually the pain went away too. It was very hard to stick with it but I did and I am happy that I stuck with it. The reason I bled was because I had flat nipples and my son was not latching on properly. I started to us a nipple shield while he nursed and this solved my problem. After a few months, I didn't need the shield anymore and now I'm like a normal b___stfeeding mom. I hope it's not this hard the second time around!
