My problem is my 8 1/2 week old daughter needs sucking satisfaction from my br___t(pacifier is not working) but I think I have over active let-down and I've done alot of research on it and nothing suggested is working and she is so fussy and frustrated. I am so upset. It's worse in the evening. When she's really hungry the flow is fine but I think she just wants to suck to get what she wants. If anyone knows what I can do to help that would be great. Thanks so much!

Have you tried different brands of pacifiers? My son hates the ones with flat sides and the types that a compleatly round. I have found that the only one so far that he will take is the avent brand.

You could pump until after the initial let down has subsided. That way the flow would not be so intense for her. If you keep letting her pacify at your b___st, it will continue to stimulate your supply. You could also teach her to use her fist/fingers. Just hold her hand in the shape of a fist to her mouth for her.

My little guy loves to do the same thing. I make a lot of milk. He can barely finish one side much less both so I don’t switch sides during a feeding. I nurse for about 4 hours on one side. My La Leche League leader said it’s fine to do that as long as the baby is gaining well. Then baby has an empty b___st to suck on. When I have letdown it is so strong my milk sprays out. My little guy lets go because there is too much milk so I just let it spray into a receiving blanket for 30-seconds/a minute until the worst is over with, then he continues nursing.
