So, I have been giving my bf son Tri-Vi-Sol about 3 times a week. I hate the stuff and I don't think he loves it either. The only reason I give it to him is for the vitamin D since we get no sun here and I don't want him to come down with ricketts. I do take my prenatal vitamins and drink fortified milk daily. Do you think he'll get enough from my br___tmilk or should I keep giving him the vitamin?

I don't know the answer to your question. But I am just curious, what type of area do you live in? Your baby only needs about 15 minutes of sunlight per week to get the right amount of Vitamin D. Blake gets this just from going to the mail box with me everyday.

I live in Northeast Ohio, near Cleveland. My friend considered moving to the Pacific NW a few years ago and researched the weather differences since it supposedly rains all of the time there. Anyway, she found out that we get less sun and more percipitation here in NE Ohio than in the Oregon/Washington state area. The sun came out for a little bit yesterday and people (includng me) were terribly excited by it b/c it hadn't been out in weeks! Geez, no wonder I'm depressed- lol!

My doctor said that I don't need to give liqid vitimans if I keep taking vitamins myself. I am so relieved not to have to go through that anymore!

It depends how north you are. Once their maternally derived vitamin D stores run out around 2 months you can choose to supplement if you think they are not getting enough from sunlight. I think La Leche League's website has some info on it. After doing some research I figured my baby is getting zero from the sun and not enough pa__sed through b___stmilk (even with my own vitamins) so I started her at 2 months and will continue until the spring.

Vitamin D is also pa__sed through mothers milk so if mom is getting enough baby should be too.

I still take my prenatals and my dr wanted me to give poly-vi-sol which is loaded with all diff vitamins she doesnt like it but the tri-vi-sol tastes fruity and she likes it. I figure why not give vitamins? There healthy for her so why would you not give them.

Too much vitamin A and iron are not good for the baby, but I really don't know if giving him the tri-vi-sol would cause vitamin A or iron toxicity. I am going to discuss it with the doc on Thurday.
