If you eat something that will upset the baby, when does it show up in your milk? I'm having a hard time figuring out what is bothering my daughter. I'm starting to wonder if she would be better off on formula. Thanks for your advice.

Well, I read that it takes about 24 hours for food to pa__s through your milk supply....sometimes a few hours and sometimes the whole 24. Do you eat a lot of onions or garlic? I know those can upset babies. I've heard of a few babies having trouble with dairy products too. If I were you, I would start writing down what you eat and then making a note of it when your baby gets fussy or has gas. Hopefully you will see the same one ingredient or food popping up each time, then you will know what your baby is sensitive to. And btw: formulas can cause bad allergic reactions in babies, so Please continue BF'ing! It is worth it and it is the best thing for your baby!

It could be something in your milk, but it could also be lack of sleep. I cut out onions, peppers, beans, and cabbage, and that helps some. I know alot of Ben's issues have to do with not sleeping enough, though.

I've heard that it can show up in your milk as soon as 2 hours after you eat. I'm having the same problem and am pretty sure it's either milk or eggs. Just a suggestion. I would be careful about using formula but I do use some and had to switch to Soy. Hope your baby can get some relief soon, I know how painful it is to watch your baby be uncomfortable.

I read that if you ate something for dinner and nursed a few hours later, to look at what you ate prior to nursing. I had a bad episode at taco bell Friday night and Emma was ga__sy and cranky all weekend. I felt so bad for her. I cut dairy out too, well milk that is. Some days it doesn't seem to matter what I eat, she's ga__sy and in pain. Poor girl. I think chocolate gets her too. I'm really having to watch what I eat!

I don't know if it's just my son, but I eat literally everything I want to eat and he never has any issues. I eat garlic, peppers, jalapenos, chocolate, eggs, etc. I love super-spicy food and I eat it all the time. He has never had any gas problems in the least. I think it might be because I ate all that stuff while pregnant too. I'm not sure though. I've never had to use formula, I would recommend that you don't start. I have heard nightmare stories about moms who supplement and lose their milk supply on accident. I've also heard of moms who switched to formula, then regretted it for whatever reason, and had a hell of a time getting their milk back. Good luck christy!!

I ate everything too but she seems to have issues sometimes. It sucks but I'm hanging in there anyway. I just feel bad for her and wonder if a soy formula would be better for her. Some days she's just fine though.
