Does Chocolate Affect Your Child

Idon't drink coffee but I love eating chocolate and I can't say no to it. They say that its not good for the baby. However, my baby (3 months) is doing fine and I do not see any negative affects on behaviour or skin health. Even though I do not see any affects is it o.k to continue eating chocolate sometimes during the week? How has chocolate affected your baby through breatfeeding?

Chocolate has never affected any of my five b___stfed children. When you are b___stfeeding, you can eat whatever you want unless it seems like it's bothering the baby.

That is not true. You do need to watch your diet. A little chocolate is okay, However excessive amounts can cause irratability, and heart problems in infants. It has also been linked to adhd. If you drink alcohol or take any medication it will also be transfered to the milk supply. Your best bet is to eat a healthy well balanced diet. If you wouldn't let your baby eat or drink it you shouldn't.

My Mother in law read and article right before I gave birth that said eating chocolate while pregnant makes for a happier baby. I would think that eating it while brestfeeding would have about the same effect. I have a very happy three month old. I eat chocolate several times a week.

thanks for reminding me to eat some chocolate D! my baby's been fussy lately and i'm convinced it's because i haven't had any chocolate. and i mean real chocolate, not this pseudo-chocolate nonsense they try to pa__s off as chocolate. real chocolate, 70% cocoa, minimal sugar levels, minimal human handling ie: no additives or preservatives. the way nature intended! when people say chocolate is bad for you they're right, candy bars and whatnot are very bad for you, but real chocolate on the other hand, is a whole different story. i feel good when i eat it, and so does my baby! it's too bad it's not as readily available as the other stuff :(
