My daughter is almost 2 weeks old and the dr has asked me to avoid dairy for a few days. She thinks Morgan has a milk allergy. She has spit up blood once and has blood in her stool (not visable blood). She is fussy and spits up 2x a day (like reflux). Just wondering if anyone else is going through this and exactly what you have cut out of your diet. We go back to the dr soon and I will double check with her, but all she mentioned for me to stay away from was milk, cheese and ice cream. I'm wondering if I should also stay away from prepackaged foods containing milk. Thanks for you responses.

I would stay away from all dairy, including the prepackaged stuff. I am fortunate that I did not have to deal with this issue, so I can' really say much else. Good luck going dairy free.

My son is allergic to dairy. It takes 2 weeks for all the dairy to leave the body. I have to avoid all dairy including ingredients in other foods. Whey is in a LOT of foods, so is casein. Reading lables in the store is very important. My sons problems cleared up 4 weeks after I stopped all dairy. It isn't so hard once you get used to it and know what products are dairy free. Good luck to you.

My brother was VERY allergic to dairy when he was b___stfeeding- along with many other foods, but my mom never avoided those foods, and now, he's not allergic to dairy- he's 22. I believe my son is allergic to dairy also- I tried a milk based formula with low iron (couldn't find a soy with low iron) and he broke out in a rash. My twins are 2 1/2 months, and are b___stfed and supplemented with soy formula. I do not avoid dairy at all, and he has had no problems since that one incident. I don't know what to tell you..... I quit drinking milk 2 years ago and my body changed alot. I noticed I was less bloated, no more runny nose, my mind was more alert, my skin complexion improved, & to be a little more personal...my bathroom duties improved also. Once I had a strong craving for a gla__s of cold milk so I indulged myself and payed for it dearly for a few days. Alot of people have these adverse reactions not because they are " lactose intolerant " but because milk isn't good for you. It is the leading cause of many allergies, digestive problems, and more. Go to your search engine & enter something like, " dangers of milk " and check out the websites with proven facts about how bad milk really is. Think about it, humans are the only species on earth who not only drink the milk from another species but continue drinking it ( not even in it;s natural form but a harmful pasteurized form ) after being weaned. We get milk from our mothers, then as we grow we are weaned because we dont need it anymore...so why continue drinking another animals milk. Calcium?? Thats a load of c___p ! You can get twice as much calcium from vegetables. The whole " drink milk " campaign is not to benefit our health but to keep the dairy industry rich and profitable !! That being said..you see for your own eyes what milk is doing to your baby...it would be wise to keep your baby away from dairy. Dont wait till he feels better and reintroduce it because the problem wont go away. His tiny, brand new digestive system can't tolerate it. There are soo many chemicals, hormones, & unnatural ingredients in milk no wonder why he is sick!! These are my opinions I feel very strongly about..do your own research and then you decide. And remember, calcium comes from other sources!

Well, there are many sources of dairy also, not just milk. Anyway, I cut dairy out of my diet too. At about 10 days mu daughter started spitting up all the time & lots of it too and seeming to be in a lot of gas pain and screaming after meals.. I used to eat a lot of dairy, I would snack on cheese and have a gla__s of milk with each meal and eat lots of yogurt & stuff. I cut all of that stuff out of my diet and she has improved greatly. I now will eat cheese in my salad or on a sandwhich or once its cooked - like in lasagna and stuff but I still don;t do the milk thing or eat yogurt. It is actually the proteins in the dairy that cause your baby to react, once you cook it, it gets rid of the proteins or kind of "neutralizes" them - so you can have pancakes because the milk is cooked and that sort of thing, but no raw "dairy".

Thanks you guys! We went to the dr today and there wasn't any blood in her stool! The dr seems to think it was left over from birth. So, hopefully I can still have a little milk in my coffee! She did put her on axid for reflux, does anyone know about this drug?

No, but I'm thinking of avoiding dairy. My seven week old is very ga__sy and sometimes he strains and cries. I've also been seeing green and almost brown stools.
