my daughter is 3 days old, im br___tfeeding and have finally got her to latch on correctly, she stays there for about 25 mins usually, but wants to feed more than the last few days (every3-4 hours) now every hour, but my nipples kill, its not so bad once she is latched on a sucking regularly but when she stops and suddenly starts and when i first get her on it kills, ive got lansinoh cream but nothing helps, can anyone suggest?

I had the same problem. Yes, it's painful in the beginning. Just don't give up. It will get better. Mine got so sore they cracked and sometimes bled. Just keep them as dry as possible and keep using the lanolin cream. You will be sore for a week or two. Then things will be pain free. Just try your best to get through the tough part. The reason she is nursing more often now is because she is getting an appet_te. In the first few days babies really aren't hungry they just nurse for the bonding. I would try the nurse 10 min. on each side then switch. I got terribly sore because my daughter would nurse (so I thought for 1 hour at a time) I found out she was using me as a pacifier and was not really hungry. I hope this helps. Please don't give up. It gets better I promise.

I HAD THE SAME EXPERIANCE, I ALSO THOUGHT SHE WAS USING ME AS A PACIFIER CAUSE IT SEEMED FOR THE FIRST 2 WEEKS SHE WOULD WANT TO EAT AS SOON AS SHE WAS DONE. BUT THAT'S NOT THE CASE THEY DO THAT TO INCREASE YOUR MILK SUPPLY. AND YES IT DOES HURT FOR THE FIRST WEEK, I CRINGED WHEN I FED HER BUT WHAT HELPED ME WAS AFTER SHE WAS DONE AND SEVERAL TIMES INBETWEEN, SQUEEZE SOME MILK AND RUB IT IN. WHAT A HUGE HELP, WAY BETTER THAN THE CREAMS. I HAD GOTTEN SO BAD BEFORE I HEARD ABOUT THIS I COULD LITTERALLY PEAL OFF A LAYER OF DRY BLOOD FROM THE NIPPLES. ALSO BE SURE NOT TO USE ANY SOAP ON YOUR BREASTS!!!! LET HER NURSE AS LONG AS SHE WANTS ON THE FIRST SIDE, BURP, CHANGE DIAPER AND OFFER THE NEXT SIDE. THEN START ON THE SIDE YOU LEFT OFF WITH NEXT TIME. IF SHE DOESNT TAKE THE 2ND SIDE AT THE FIRST FEEDING THATS OK, JUST START THEIR NEXT TIME. GOOD LUCK AND DONT GIVE UP, I ALMOST DID AND IM GLAD I STUCK IT OUT. I LOVE BREAST FEEDING!

Try putting cabbage leaves soaked in cold water in the fridge on your b___sts. It helps. I had the same problem and it does get better. Mine cracked really bad but I still kept feeding her. I used a hand pump a couple times and she took a bottle so that gave my nipples some time to heal a little!!! Lanolin cream helps. Just keep at it. It'll get better. I'm at 3 wks and don't have the problem as bad.

thankyou so much, for your messages, i could cry reading them, it means the world not to feel alone and useless, i mean the midwives are great but knowing other people experienced the same thing and got through it is great. last night i was crying with the pain, she didnt want to stop, on and on, and i couldnt help but get ratt with dh, feeling it was his fault beccause he cant b___st feed, it feels like such a responsibility, its only me to do it. this morning my milk has come in, my b___bs are solid rocks, i tried to express to take off the pressure which helped even though i didnt get loads, but both nipples still very sore and bleeding or scabby, why all these natural things have to be so painfull i dont know. thanks again for your support :-)

omigosh! i hear you!!! for a little more than two weeks every time she'd latch on i'd literally dig my heels into the carpet and bite my lip. it hurt SO bad. but then, one day, the pain was just...GONE! and since then, it was nothing but pure bliss. :)

Ben is 2w2d old now and his pediatrician said I should cut him off after 20 minutes on each side to keep him from shredding my nipples. He still does because he has gotten weird about latching on lately. Does your dtr latch on properly? Is her body totally turned toward yours when she feeds? Some people give their babies a pacifier if they are sucking for comfort, but I think you're supposed to wait a week or two. My son hates the pacifier, so it is a moot point fo us. I find that ice packs help with the pain, as does the lanolin with 10-15 minutes of air drying my b___sts. Ibuprofen helps with the inflammation too.

I Had the same pain after the first few days and I have the answer... AVENT NIPPLE PROTECTORS. I would have given up if it were not for these wonderful things. I urge anyone to buy them. Hope this helps. Lou ;)

i dont get how the nipple protectors work, how do they stay on and how does baby suck through them, jasmin hates dummy so would she take this, is it thick plastic?

Nipple shields can cause some seriously bad problems if you use them for more than a few days. Check on your positioning. Make sure that the baby is tummy to tummy with you. The baby should be coming straight on to the nipple without having to turn its head. Switching sides often and air drying your nipples will also help a lot.

Mine are sore too (cracked and bleeding). The lactation consultant told me it's from improper position. I wasn't nursing him with his entire body facing me, rather somewhat on his back with his head turned towards me. Maybe that's happening? Also if he's only taking in the nipple, that causes a lot of pain. Good luck. I know it will get better though, this is my second time nursing and within a couple weeks nursing was a joy.

Whoops, Sharon. I didn't read the posts. You're not my lactation consultant are you, lol?! I was also told to use b___stmilk on my nipples to help heal them. I haven't tried that yet, but I should.
