How old is he? Newborns tend to nurse pretty frequently unitl they're about 6 to 8 weeks old. They nurse for both comfort and nourishment, which helps to establish your supply. You have to keep in mind, your infant is experiencing total culture shock. EVERYTHING is new to him, from light to sound to smell to his own body. Naturally he wants his mommy while he adjusts. You are the only thing that is familiar to him. My advice has always been - don't supplement until you are given a firm diagnosis of failure to thrive. Supplementing with formula during the first 6 weeks can seriously sabotage the b___stfeeding relationship, through latch and supply problems. Also, I would not recommend giving your infant goat's milk or anything other than human milk without checking with your pediatrician first. While the ladies on this site tend to be fairly accurate and helpful, most of them are not trained professionals.
