Well, I did say that my opinion would shock most folks...and it offended too..., I qualified it as my personal opinion afterall.....
Listen, If women knew the facts and the truth about why b___stfeeding is so far superior to formula (for brain development, gastro-intestinal health, etc,,, more ways than can be listed here) So many more women would breasfeed. HUMAN MILK FOR HUMAN BABIES !! It is the ONLY biologically appropriate food for human babies. You are not giving birth to a cow, what on earth would make anyone think it's appropriate to feed a newborn human, cow's milk? (yes, formulas are made from cow's milk, with a bunch of additives). Women owe it to themselves and especially their babies to get factual, accurate and real information about the impact of the decision to deny their baby b___stmilk in the first (at least) 6 months of life. It is because women think formula is "just as good as" and is "almost the same as" that so many women choose not to b___stfeed. Does no one wonder why so many babies have " colic" and why so many women have to switch from formula to formula...why so many babies get so sick in early infancy? So many caes of childhood asthma, diabetes, severe allergies, obesity, colds and infections? Breastmilk will not elliminate these thinks in a population as large as north america because genetics and the environment will always play a role, but tens of thousands of babies would suffer less if they had the protection of their mother's milk. Do your next baby a favor and educate yourself about all this stuff...and for the love of God, don't rely on the information the formula companies spew out...Once you know the truth, you would never "choose" to formula feed.

naomi and mom from canada, you're not even thinking about women who cannot b___stfeed b/c of some reason or another. some women may be taking some type of medication who cannot b___stfeed. how about the women who have tried but just can't? and for the other countless reasons, are you going to pull your guilt trips on those women???????? GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!! as stated by two others, MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!!!!

Amen to whatever. i know some women that just cannot b___stfeed a baby because they have either past issues with s_xual abuse (psychological reasons) or they physically cannot b___stfeed due to a surgery they once had. i went to a LLL website and read all these stories of "overcoming" challenges like those mentioned, but really, it sounded like blatant, pure propaganda. truth is, no normal person really cares how the next woman feeds her baby. how does that matter? i know mom and canada, you threw out all those benefits of b___stmilk, and i agree it's a great choice FOR THOSE WHO CHOOSE TO DO IT. you slathered on the word GUILT and REGRET? i guess thats to folks who do not agree with you because they bottlefeed? i fed my sons formula and i have no regrets or guilt. why should i? they are healthy, strong boys who are very smart. both of my boys were never sick, and they had formula. i'm still waiting on all those inner ear infections and colds and everything else b___stfeeders put on our children, like they are the sickliest lot...my sons have never had any of that and they are 3 and 5. you ahould care more about what other parents are feeding their children's minds moreso than what they feed their bodies. when they get into society, that is all that is going to show. NOT whether or not you were b___stfed or formula fed.

well, perhaps you have completely missed the point of my "rant" and the fact that I exempted medical/health and safety reasons in my first post....I am speaking strictly of women who "choose" to feed their babies with artificial milk, and not those women who can't b___stfeed or who have tried and had to stop....there is a huge difference between women who can not BF for reasons of: life saving medications, prior surgeries or emotional and psychological scars from s_xual abuse, and those women who decide to formula feed because they believe the myths and lies that it is a perfectly safe and appropriate way to feed a baby, and is just as good as b___stfeeding. It is painfully clear by the majority of these posts how unaware most women are about the facts. Yes, some babies are lucky and never suffer acute or chronic illness as a result of being formula fed...countless others are not so lucky....Breastfeeding provides benefits long after baby stops nursing to both mom and baby. It is primarily due to mis-information, the lack of support from knowlegable care givers, aggressive marketing campaings by formula companies and the absence of breasfeeding as a cultural norm in our society that have contributed to so many moms never giving it a go, or trying but stopping because of challenges they do not have the information or support to overcome. You can refer to The World Health Organization (WHO) The American Academy of Pediatrics and dozens of other National and International Health Care Authorities to get stats and facts...but I care how infants are fed, because I know the truth, and I want what's best for ALL children, not just my own....call it a "Public Health" issue...

well do what's best for all humankind, mind your own buisness. i cannot stand people who try and tell others how to raise their kids. how the hell is b___stfeeding a public health issue? either you do, or you do not. AIDS is a public health issue, city sanitation is a public health issue, water quality is a public health issue...b___stfeeding? well, that's a feeding choice that mom/dad/family has the right to choose from in our society. goodness gracious, i hope you people stumble upon the right one someday who will put you in your place. you all won't shut up until you do.

The link above (cut and paste into your browser) is only one of hundreds of sound and trustworthy resources for scientific information on the health benefits of b___stfeeding. Take the time and responsibility to inform yourself with the truth. Our health care systems could save literally millions of dollars every year, if more babies were b___stfed. That would free up a lot of money for research into a cure for HIV/AIDS, cancer, monitoring and maintaining safe water supplies etc...Att_tudes as expressed by the "mind your own business" set, will unfortunately prevail until women have access to the truth, and are in a position to make truly informed decisions based on facts regarding their health and the health of their babies.

boo to you, mom in canada. boo boo boo. seven thumbs down, no stars...booo! you all are so starstruck over b___stfeeding, that you are blind. look at whats going on around you that is MAJORLY contributing to public health. look at fast food restaurants, they are everywhere, and it's many peoples mainstay. drinking soft drinks like coke, full of sugar and empty calories. foods that are full of fat and sodium. poor healthcare. GMO foodstuffs. how about environment? and maybe the biggest culprit of all... GENETICS!!! no amount of b___stfeeding (or formula) can undo, redo, or alter your genetic makeup. if it's in your genes to get diabetes later in life, guess what? you're gonna get it and have to live with it. i have high blood pressure and i am very young, only 25. but, it's in my family and my genes. what can i do about it other than watch my lifestyle at this point? i certainly am not about to go blame my mother for not b___stfeeding me!! whatever M.I.C., maybe you need to research some truth. here's some...launch a web search if you do not beleive me. did you know that these "super babies" who have nothing but b___stmilk in parts of the developing countries still have the highest infant mortality rates in the world? look up the stats for places like somalia, ethiopia, malaysia, and bangladesh. these b___stfed babies still succ_mb to simple germs that cause diarrhea, childhood disease, malaria, parasites, and the list can go on all day. we have it MADE here enough on this continent (to include you in canada M.I.C.) that we do not routinely have to worry if our children will live to see 3 or 4. it's almost a given. i guess since you do not have any real issue to worry about like that you have to go on crusades via the internet to disrespect other parents. these "millions of dollars" that would supposedly be saved if babies were b___stfed, break your figures down. put your money where your mouth is. show me how you reached this deep conclusion? i invite you to a debate on the facts, because it really just seems like you are spewing your own abrasive opinions. explain this, how did my little formula fed child escape all sickness (except for mild colds once in a blue moon) but the exclusively b___stfed kid down the block that my son loves to play with is always sick. when he was only 10 or 11 months the poor kid had a full body yeast infection and he had meningitis before he was 2. my son always played at his home and he had to be exposed at some point, but did he catch these things? NOPE. your points are real weak. it really just sounds like either you are mad that people won't do what you want them to do (which is wise to get over quick) or you work for LLL. with your off stats and misinformation, that would not suprise me.

follow all the links from this page if you really want to get more info from your own government, number 8 especially for those of you cinical about the economics of it all...I'm not making any of this stuff up people, the information is right in front of your eyes...you might even see it if you open them...
Again, I say inform yourselves, and empower yourselves instead of being so incredibly defensive and citing anecdotal stories of the 'baby up the street' and not being able to see beyond your own personal experience. Get the facts...I could cut and paste a hundred links, but I know you will not check any of them, because you do not want to know. You are happy to be defensive and close minded. although you sure don't sound happy...
Get back to me in 20 years...when formula will once again be used for it's intended purpose. To feed a very small population of babies who would die without it because they either have no mom (ie: died in childbirth) or whose mom is so sick or injured she can not BF for health/medical reasons and not because a mom was so obsessed by the thought of having 'the personal freedom to choose" even if it means denying her baby the best possible start in life....

I think in 20 years formula will likely be improved upon, and it's use far from discontinued. You may not like it Mom In Canada, but formula feeding is a choice moms have, and it's a very popular one. Breastfeeding is best as far as nutrition goes, most definately, but it does not incorporate with every family and every moms wishes and/or circ_mstances. Uh, I followed the links you provided, and these are all HYPOTHETICAL STATISTICS. All this energy you expend caring about what parent feeds baby formula, you could be caring about your own business. Because I am sorry to inform you, Mom In Canada, what I feed my child here in Florida, USA, doesn't have anything in God's green earth to do with your crazy, nosey b___t up in Bumbuklat, Canada. It's your opinion and I think you need to keep it to yourself in public before you get your feelings hurt by someone who is not as nice as everyone has been to you here.

Hey. So, a__suming I was b___stfed as a child, that means I can eat a diet of nothing but fast food, Coca Cola, fatty red meats, never exercise, never eat veggies or fruits, expose myself to people with contagious ailments and I never, ever will get sick or suffer from heart disease or other consequences of a diet such as mentioned? Oh boy, sounds like you are promoting a futuristic vaccine that can also supress your body's reaction to bad dietary choices instead of the facts on b___stfeeding. Although, if you are a scientist Mom In Canada, you may make beaucoup bucks if you patent such a thing, the South Beach Diet would go to hell and everybody would be ready to sign up for your new vaccine instead!!

woah nelly, what have i walked in on! b___stfeeding and bottle feeding are veryyyy personal and individually promoted and dealt with. I do understand the risks of formula, but although my magically grown D b___bs look like they can feed a small army, they provide 8 ounces a day if that. I understand your point on the whole formula issue, and yes - i have researched and tend to agree. However, i am stuck between a b___st pump and a hungry baby. I feel guilty about the formula and tend to feel a bit like a failure but I understand that i can't provide my baby the ounces she needs right now - so i have to resort to something to sustain her - which is formula. The thing about the bf and formula debate is that each side has a strong opinion about it, but until you are faced with little milk for your baby - what will you do? what would you have done if you couldn't feed your baby naturally? and PS - I am vegan - i don't consume dairy, etc - so when i tell you to offer your aby formula in the event that you have no milk - it says a lot. And yes, before you jump on me (canada) i already know that formula increases risks of allergies and even sids. All i can do is try my best - and keep pumping until i can feed this baby on my own. ok im off my soap box now..

Ok, i read your links, and i am still trying to see how b___stfeeding is a public health issue. not unless, canada is another planet.

MIC, yes i do beleive in God. i also beleive that God gave man enough common sense and intelligence to overcome potential problems during our time on this earth. doctors and scientists have invented ways to save the lives of victims of all types of diseases and health problems. thanks to modern medicine, people are living longer than ever before, even in developing countries. thanks to science, we now have the knowledge to transplant organs to save lives. thanks to science and medicine, we have infant formulas for babies who cannot b___stfeed, or moms who do not want to b___stfeed. i am actually getting insulted by your ramble because my mom simply chose not to b___stfeed me. so, you call women like my mom silly and childish? honey, my mother has a PHd in Education, is a professor at a local college, and makes more money than you or i will probably ever make. so, my mom is not some uneducated, silly girl who doesn't know jack. OK? go off on your little rampage without disrespecting other people if you want to get your point across. a point you have little of. every link you post reads opinions, and the ones highlighting some facts that can be referenced are in places where bottle feeding is unsafe because mothers in developing nations don't have access to clean water for formula preperation oftentimes, they prepare the milk improperly, or they dilute the milk with other substances to stretch it out. i bite my tounge so often when i come here because honestly, b___stfeeding gestapo get under my skin. IT'S ALL ABOUT CHOICE. and families have the formula choice, whether you like it or not, and no matter how much it gets to you, and no matter how much you think it's a shame and etc. etc. your 'truth' is all flavored by your zeal and your opinions, and the zeal and opinions of others who feel the same way you do, and just took the time to create a website to spread the insanity. like i have said countless times in response to your little public health and overweight rants... WHAT ABOUT FAST/FATTY FOOD DIETS? WHAT ABOUT SUGAR, EXCESS SALT, AND LACK OF EXERCISE? b___stfeeding makes you immune to all that? your environment? your very own GENETICS? you need to do some more research and stop trying to make people feel bad by spewing lies. i will agree b___stfeeding is best for mom and baby, but formula is a great second best, and it does not contribute to obesity and diabetes. no conclusive study has proven this. back in the day, when there was NO FORMULA, only b___sts to feed babies, we still had obesity and diabetes. we still had hypertension and thyroid problems. babies died even more in those days because of the practices of the day, poor hygiene, and mother's lack of nutrition during pregnancy. since you brought NATURAL into this, if you ever develop an illness that requires you to be on antibiotics, or maybe one to take meds for the rest of your life in order to live, don't take it. deny it. fight it. nature gave your body white blood cells to fight off infections, right? and God forbid you have to live with something like diabetes...don't take your insulin and see what happens. all these things aren't particularly "natural", but God gave man the wisdom to create them and they are helping mankind survive and live full lives without being sick. formula is doing the same thing in some cases, and in others, it's simply a feeding choice a parent has made. if you really want to make a difference, boycott Mc Donalds and Burger King. they are causing more health problems than milk in a baby's bottle. gimme a freaking break.

ok so i better stop supplementing my baby's food with formula and just let her suffer on the little milk she gets from me? come on, be real. just because you're able to feed your baby from the b___st effectively doesn't mean all women can. you think i want to waste money on formula?
