My dog just had puppies and I found my 2yr old this afternoon sucking on its teat trying to nurse like the puppies were. could he get sick? Should I take him to the Dr tomorrow?

I wouldn't worry about it. It's unlikely to harm him. Check with your vet and your doc for rea__surance.

OMG - lol:) I doubt he will get sick but call the doc for safety. I wonder what the dog was thinking. I think that would be a winner on America's Funniest Videos!

Boy that's gross. :D Seriously though I doubt it would hurt your child. I would get him checked just in case. I am not sure about dogs but I know cats can carry feline HIV amongst other things. And since diseases spread through b___stmilk...well you never know! I'd want to ease my mind though.

What was a toddler doing around a dog-with puppies no less-by himself?! The baby or the puppies could have been hurt.

True K. I've never had a dog but if they are anything like cats, when they are moms they can be extremely snappy towards anything they deem a threat. Perhaps Worried should be worried more about supervision in the future. Perhaps this will be a lesson?

Actually if there is a dog around yes I certainly do, or any other animal for that matter. It's part of being responsible and I definately wouldn't want it on my conscience if my child got bitten or killed. My cats are kept away from my son at all times unless I am in the same room. If he's running around playing the cats go into the bathroom for food and I make sure the door is latched at the top. It's part of being a good parent.

I have three dogs and my kids have never been left alone with them as babies or toddlers. It's common sense.

My young children are not left alone with the pets either.

Come on people.....It's not like she put her child in there with the dog and said here drink some of this.....I have 2 dogs and I have not a problem with either one of them with my 2 1/2 year old....if anything they are protective of her and would not hurt a fly...I think you took this question way over board...what should she put a leash on her children, so she knows what they are doing every second..children need exploring time and as long as there isnt anything to harm them they are fine..i let my daughter play in her room by herself, does that make me a bad parent...don't think so

I don't believe it's an attack on her. It's simply the truth. As a mother and dog professional, the best of children and the best of dogs still don't mix when left alone. There's too much risk and it's PREVENTABLE!

shawna, I completely agree with you. children need time to explore, unless the dog is known to be agressive... didn't you know that we have perfect parents on this board who never leave their child alone for a milli-second.

dog professional or not, i don't care....it depends on the dog and how it's raised. my mother-in-law has 2 rots and they are the sweetest thing and my daughter jumps all over them and they have not even tried to hurt her...SO to all those PERFECT parents or those who think they are..don't go judging other people because no matter how perfect you think you are there is not ONE single perfect person in this world.

um......hello........lets get back on the real topic here, please keep your opinions to yourself. Worried, i would call the doc to be sure, these ladies do not know you personally and I guarentee none of them would have the nerve to say these things to your face. You obviously care for your children or would not be concerned about this.

Dogs (sweet or not) can behave in ways we would never dream of when it comes to children, especially babies and toddlers pulling, grabbing, stepping on, etc. Add to that a b___h with a litter, more risk. Breed has nothing to do with it. When they are together, keep an eye on them. Explore time is not an excuse to turn your back and walk away. If you can't watch them, put the dog elsewhere. Simple and safe. It's not perfection, it's being a responsible parent and dog owner.
