I'm going to be having a 2nd c-section in October. My 1st was born via emergency c-section back in 2004, Christmas Day to be exact. The strange thing is is that I wasn't even scared during the emergency c-sec and everything went so smoothe. With this pregnancy I am so scared to have another c-sec. I guess b/c I have been all over the net researching things and now I see all the risks and complications that can occur, cardiac arrest, hemmorage, infections, and many more. I know I shouldn't be looking on the net b/c there are so many misleading websites out there and if my Dr. knew what i was doing he would probably come to my house and take away my computer, LOL. Anyways, I just wanted to get this off my chest. I think I'm making myself more scared than what I should be.

One more thing I forgot to mention, I just found out a week and a half ago that my iron was low, somthing I never experienced with my 1st pregnancy. Did any of you have low iron levels and have a c-section? I'm taking a prescription iron supplement, so I'm hoping it helps.

Hi Angie! I have had 3 c-sections. The first was an emergency and I was too tired to be scared... I would have been more scared to stay in labor, actually, the way it was going lol. But, I started freaking out with my 2nd one, well... because I had time to ;-) I had to keep telling myself that I had lived through one and that I pretty much knew that I wasn't going to have a bad rxn to the spinal, since my epidural was ok. It all turned out ok, but I had to constantly try to banish the negative thoughts. Then, I did have low iron with my 3rd. I took iron pills and I a__sume the levels came back up by delivery time because no-one mentioned it when I had my pre-surgery CBC. That CBC, though, did show that I had extrememly low platelets and they were too low to safely do a spinal, so I had to be under general anesthesia. The funny thing is that I was so calm right up until the day of his birth and that day I got terrified of the spinal (even though with baby #2 I barely felt it)... I felt like I was having a panic attack because I was so scared that morning. I was actually a little relieved when they said I would need GA lol. Oh and LOL... my doc also told me not to read horror stories on the internet about all of what you mentioned... well, I did stop reading them... but all of those possibilities were listed on the surgical consent form haha! real comforting! :-D Anyway, I don't know how your healing went with your emergency c-section. Mine was kind of rough... but I did find the scheduled ones to be MUCH easier to recover from. I also knew that I wasn't going to rip open from sitting up (even though it felt like it the first time) and I moved a bit more freely :-)

Just wanted to say thanks to Sahmof3 for her response my question is pretty much the same as Angiek77 and my section is in October too. I have a 5 year old to look after as well though.
Have moved everything in the kitchen so I can reach it and plan on freezer for microwave for the first two weeks at least. Have a cleaner twice a week and partner will take and collect daughter from school for the 1st two weeks after that I will walk the short distance.
How did you cope with your other kids as well? my hubby is pretty hopeless.

After my first emergency c-section my iron was low. I took iron pills for a few weeks after and was back to normal. You're second scheduled c-section will be just fine.

I had an emergency c-section w/my DS5....and a scheduled c w/my DD 3wks...I was not nervous w/the second b/c i ended up going into labor earlier than i was sceduled...and so i had literally 1.5 hrs from time of admission to incision....it was a whirlwind. I did get anxious right after my epidural...(it didnt hurt badly at all)...but just the thought that i was wide awake and about to be sliced into...OY...but once incision was made...i just tried to keep my mind off of the actual surgery..and thought about meeting my daughter..
I think the docs do a good job of keeping things light and chatty. Anyway..my DD was beautiful...so worth it..and overall the experience went quite well...Recovery was a little more painful...but im older...by 1 week i was okay..by 2weeks i felt really good.
Just take it easy afterwards..and take the pain meds if you need them.
Its all SO WORTH IT!!
Even the Frankenstein scar on your netherparts! LOL
