I am turning 41 this month and have three kids by C-section. Wondering if a fourth is safe especially at this age?

The fact you've had nothing but c sections would likely be absolute indication for a 4th. Largely due to the increased risk of uterine rupture. Check the statistics on VBAC after multiple sections to get an idea. As far as your age...you're not too old or anything! I am 40 myself and asked my doc what the chances are for complications during or after csections in women my age because I have never had a csection before and my only other child was born 1986. She says complications are very rare and seemed quite confident. What has your doc told you?

Hi there. I am 38 expecting my 4th and have 3 sections. I am planning a 4th section. In my opinion, Ithink I'm safer to go with a 4th section than attempt a VBAC. Good luck!

Hi - my hospital's policy (UC Davis in Sacramento) is no VBAC. They don't want the risk or potential lawsuits, which speaks volumes to me. Your age (which I don't think anyone would call "advanced") doesn't really factor into the risks of surgery, and (again because of lawsuits) is actually more impetus for doctors to suggest another c-section. I've had 2 and am trying for a 3rd (I'm 39) which would be a guaranteed c, and I wondered what the limit, if any, is for c-sections. My OB has no issues with my going for a 3rd, and legend has it that Rose Kennedy had 9 or 10 - and that was in the days of vertical incisions!

no word of a lie...on tuesday i met a women in the high risk clinic where i go who was having her 13th, yes 13th c-section. i can't imagine 13 kids let alone 13 c-sections. i asked my dr about her and he confirmed it to be true!
