ANYONE SCARED OF BLEEDING OUT

How exciting for you and your family. Knowing what to expect is the first step toward you recovery because it will allow you to be prepared. Not only are you having a baby you also are having major surgery. The only surgery with a beautiful gift at the end. The actual surgery is painless!!!!! The nurses and anthesiologists will talk to you thru the Sx. The Doc. may to but often they are to busy concentrating.. Recovery they will monitor your blood pressure and make sure your uterus is contracting . After a spinal you may feel very itchy (side effect) they can give you benadryl in your IV. You also need to wear compression equipment on your legs for 24 hours after Sx. It sounds like Darth vader my son told me. They dont hurt they are just annoying. As soon as they let you get up out of bed the healing begins. They remove the catheter first no big deal from your bladder. Walk as much as you can. Pain medicine is there for you . so that you can walk around and feel okay. The first time you get out of bed the nurses will help you. It feels strange like you wont be able to do it but you do and you can... If possible see if you can have help for atleast the first 2 weeks you are home. You wont be allowed to go up and down stairs more than 1x a day. You cant drive for 2 weeks... Usually the ped. wants to see the baby a few days after you get home. It will take time to feel like you self and with each day you do feel better and better. I cant believe my baby is already 4weeks old. Today I physically feel close to my old self. Also no heavy lifting for 6 weeks... I It can be fustrating not being able to run to the baby when it cries and with fluctuating horomones you can get weepy it is all normal..... Line up help and your recovery will be that much better. ..

I hope not to scare anyone but to answer dylan's question... "do women still die in this surgery??".... I had a friend who died after delivering twins via c-section 2 years ago. She bled to death. They could not stop her bleeding.... she wound up in a brain dead coma... after a few months when they were sure there was no brain function, the family decided to turn off the machines. There is ALWAYS a risk in major surgery... but I have read that there is only like a 1% chance of this happening. Again... I don't mean to be the downer here but... I just think women should be aware of what can go wrong. I had a c-section with my first baby and knowing this story I have been totally torn about what do do with this preganancy...schedule a c-section or try for the VBAC. Anyhow dylan... considering rhe odds... I am sure you will be OK...especially if your DR. is well prepared for your circ_mstances... it is normal to be scared.. just picture it in your head that everything tis going to go just fine and imagine yourself holding your new baby!

well thats a scarey storey!!!! just when i was starting 2 feel rea__sured!! lol

sara - August 11

what was that story all about. I guess when you are on the internet you gonna hear a story . Dont worry first off its was twins you dont know any history about the woman her circ_mstancesetc. and who were her doctors. Have faith you will be okay !!!!!!!!!!!!!! In two months you are going to be blessed with a miracle . Every person when pregnant seems to unfortunately have to hear a horror story. Remember my 2 c-sect. were high cuts also and i had adhesions and everthing went well....

dylan - August 11

i suppose u r rght sara....did u have the high up and down cut?? i believe you said you did...and no excessive bleeding??

sara - August 11

no actually my outside cut is side to side my uterus has a low transverse cut and now two high transverse cuts. and there was no excess bleeding. . and adhesions make the Sx tricky and my doc. was quite concerned and it went better then he anticipated. talk to you docs. let them know your concerns they should be able to put your mind at ease.

dylan - August 11

sara- i just hd a dr's appointment today and she is not that concerned at all...she said i have a slightly elevated risk of excess bleeding, and the worst case of that is a hysterectomy, but she doesn't see that being a concern at all....so i felt rea__sured, and if she's confident than i can be too...and she's gonna have another ob a__sist too...

sara - August 12

that is great news. i too was at a risk for hysterectomy for bleeding and it was all okay. Enjoy your pregnancy relax and your new love will be in your arm soon. let me know how things go

I had three c-sections , they all went fine except for my 3rd. After my third c-section, after the recovery , I was put in my own room , I could feel myself bleeding heavey. I did not say anything untill I was alone with my mom. I told my mom that I can feel blood coming out , she said to call the nurse . I called the nurse and they called an emergency , next thing I new I past out. Aparently I ahd ma__sive bleeding. All I remember I waking up some time later back in the recovery room. I was told what happened. They gavr me three bags of blood. The nursr said I was lucky. As they had not experienced that before, its not comon. Anyway other than that I healed fine. right now I am preg with baby #4. It will be c-section again. Same doctor , he wants me to tie my tubs as he saidI am at high risk. I not sure what to do . My husband still wants another baby.

sara - August 20

lore, my doc. wanted to tie my tubes after my third third c-sec. this past july. bacause of my adhesions etc. i said no the day of Sx. my doc. seemed quite unhappy about my decision. At my 6 week checkup i am going to ask why he prefered it done . You need to find out what being a high risk for you means. ... Your third c-sect. was complicated do you know why you bed???

hello....sara i am so glad to hear your stories...your situation is just like mine i had ALOT of scar tissue and adhesions...when i had my second c they told me that my uterus was adhered to my bladder and colon...so he said it was a difficult delivery and told me i may want to rethink a 3rd b/c there are risks of me bleeding too much....well that doctor left town and i am now seeing a new doctor and i want a 3rd baby soooo bad but i am really scared...the new doctor gave me the go ahead...he told me that i was at higher risk of bladder and bowel damage and needing a hysterectomy? well i am still debating but my husband says lets do it.....i am scared! so your story is encouraging....what was the dye you were talking about that showed your bladder?

Amy P - September 5

i am trying to get pregnant with #3 and i said my situation is like sara's so i was wondering what that dye was that outlined the bladder and how do they do it? also, i have never heard of them cutting the uterus a different way b/c of scar tissue...maybe the doctor would mention this once i was pregnant if its an option...did the doctor cut the uterus up and down b/c of scar tissue? if so did it make it easier? i am so scared to go through another c..only b/c after i delivered my 2nd the doctor i had was like dont have another one cause you could die...then later told me no you should just wait a while and give your body time to heel and he also told me that the scar tissue would diminish over time.....and my new OB said NO it will actually get worse over time...so who knows...but the new OB says i will be fine and just that there are risks the same as everyone is saying (bladder, bowel, hysterectomy) ok i can handle those things to have a sweet baby in my arms...as long as i am able to live through it...
