With my dd I had a c-section in the morning. The spinal/epidural was no big deal until 2 minutes into it and I started to throw up, my blood pressure dropped and heartrate elivated wich made me pass out on and off. I didn't stop throwing up until that night, until they finally gave me something stronger than gravol. Has this happened to anyone else??? And can the doctors prevents this from happening???? I don't know if I am going VBAC but if I do I just want be a little more prepared. I would ask my doctor but he won't give me a proper answer, he ask me to ask my OBGYN wich I don't see until June. Canadian healthcare is a joke.

Its hard to answer your question because a spinal and epidural are 2 different things, the spinal is where you are given mulitple injections in the spine and an epidural they actually put something in your spine to feed you medication. Either or though you should ask your dr or OBGYN to be reffered to a anesthesioligist at the hospital you choose to deliver at. this way you speak directly with someone who will be doing it or does just that for a living. i live in Canada too, West Coast, and it made me feel alot better talking to an anestheseologist considering this is my 4th csection but the worst I ever had was throwing up. If you were given an epidural I would opt for a spinal next time, I have had all spinals and they have been great! Good luck

I had spinal anesthetic for 3 of my 4 sections. I did exactly as you describe as well. I have a horrific time with anesthesia in general but the plummeting blood pressure caused me great grief during the sections. One time the anesthesiologist screamed "I've got severe hypotension here, get that baby OUT!" Needless to say, that, on top of trying to vomit with the spinal that traveled up to my cheeks was horrible. I hate c-sections and I hate anesthesia. We do not get along. Epidurals can cause hypotension (low BP) as well. In addition, with one of my NICU baby sections I got a horrible spinal headache from trying to get up to see my sick baby. The spinals are a deeper puncture and the risk is higher for a post-op headace.
