How long after your c-section were you able to exercise? What kind of exercises could you do or not do? Thanks!

My doctor told me not to do any kind of exercise for the first 6 weeks post c-section. After that she said I could do any kind of excersice I wanted but to take it slow for 2 weeks and not to push myself, and if everything went fine then to do as much as I wanted.

My doctor told me the same as -m, yet was feeling great so went back to the gym after 4 weeks. Turned out to be a bad idea and tore myself open while lifting light weights (and yes i was told not to even hang washing in the first 6 weeks). I was mentally ready my body was not. It was 7 months later when i was able to get back into it without the pain in the lower abs. I have a larger than average scar to prove it and can't believe I was so desperate to get fit after major surgery. Give your body time to heal.

I was told not to lift anything heavier than my baby in her carrier for the first 6 weeks. Honestly, I think the only reason the doctor gave me that concession is because she knew I *had* to be able to lift the baby, because my husband could only take 4 weeks off from work. Now my baby is nearly 12 weeks old, and I still can't excercise my abs without sharp shooting pains.
