C Sections And Infertility

Hi
I am hoping to have an elective c-section. Whilst reading about pros and cons I've seen it mentioned that a c-section can lessen your chance of getting pregnant and cause infertility. This seems like a bit of an exaggeration or way to scare women away from c-sections. Does anyone have any personal experience that may prove this to be true? I personally know of people who've had more than 1 c-section, and have then gone on to have more children.

Hi! During my first delivery, I was in labor for 29 hours, pushed for 2 hours, then had to have a c-section. For my 2nd delivery, I scheduled a c-section. And that's the route I'll go if I ever have another one. It was so much better! My recovery was fine, was up & walking 2 days later actually......The only bad part was having the epidural done before the surgery. I've never read anywhere that a c-section would reduce fertility!

I asked my doctor this question since we thought we were infertile, ended up with a surprise pg and at the end an emergency section. I wondered if my section would cause infertility. He said there is no evidence that indicates c-section impairs fertility.
Personally, even though my healing wasn't bad, I still have some pain & itching on my scar 4mos post section and wouldn't recommend an elective section. With the epidural you won't feel labor & the other women in the ward who had v____al deliveries seemed to be up & about so much faster. A section isn't bad, it just wouldn't be my first choice.
Good luck!

I had a c-section almost 2 years ago, and I've been trying to get pregnant for 7 months now. I had SO many complications after my section, I wound up back in the hospital when my son was 1 month old. I had 6 different infections, including staph. I don't recommend an elective c-section unless you have a major medical reason. And I have an article right here that plainly says c-sections can cause problems trying to get pregnant again, increased risk of miscarriage, unexplained stillbirth, and lots of other things. This article is supported by The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Your doctor may not be a member of that board.
