Help, have to have a c section due to breech and scared silly at the thought of it. At my hospital they put the catheter in before the epidural/spinal, does it hurt and how long does it take to do. Also how painful is it when they do a spinal.

You can ask them to put the catheter in after the spinal. That's what I had to do with both of my C's. I can't believe they would want to do the catheter first.... it's like, um, hello?!?!?!

I had the cath in before being put under general anesthesia with my 3rd baby. It was some pressure, maybe even a little pain, but it goes in quickly... shouldn't be more than 10-20 seconds. I had an epidural with my 1st and a spinal with my 2nd. I was lucky and good experiances w/ both. They both went in on the 1st try and worked properly! It felt like a pinch each time and that was it!!
