Hi everyone! Well, I cant believe I'm actually posting the birth story up on the site.. once and for all!!! Well, I went in to hospital at 11 o Clock on Friday morning feeling unbelieveably nervous! When I'm nervous I go quiet so my husband knew I was sh*t scared!!!! ha ha. I was asked to strip and get into the very flattering hospital gown which I did. I had to give a urine sample and I went on the foetal monitor for about 15-20mins. While I sat there sweating....I was asked 101 questions about my medical background and family medical history etc. I signed my life away and the nurse administered the IV. It was put in my left arm and I can honestly say, it was no problem at all. And I hate needles!!! Then we waited for a call from theatre to say they were ready for me. While I waited, I was given a tiny little bottle and told to drink it. Apparently, it was an antacid just incase I felt I needed to vomit. I asked why I would need to vomit and the nurse told me that when the spinal block is administered, it causes blood pressure to drop, hence the feeling of nausea. (I never once felt nauseous through the whole ordeal) Anyway it was revolting! The call came and next thing I knew I was getting wheeled down to theatre. We stopped at a changing room where my husband was told to go in and change into the scrubs left on the bench. When he was finished, we waited in a room outside theatre where I was introduced to the whole team of doctors, nurses, etc that would be present. Then I was wheeled in. This is when it all hit me!!! I felt so scared! They lifted me onto the operating table and sat me up. My bum was sitting over the edge of the table for the anaesthetist to do his thing, My husband stood infront of me along with the midwife I was told to hug on a pillow they handed me and to curl over it. She kept telling me to relax my shoulders but to me that was so hard! I was so tense and scared I couldnt help it! Both the midwife and my husband tried to stop me from turning around to look at the needle but I couldnt help that either. Firstly I was given an injection of local anaesthetic to the base of my spine, which stung a bit but it was fine. Then, there was the spinal.. He warned when he was about to do it. I could feel pressure more than anything else but a tiny bit of pain. Thats when I jumped a bit and he decided to inject some more local before doing the spinal again! I was so happy when it was done. All I could feel was a warm sensation in my bum and it worked its way down to my feet. They lay me down and I felt the sensation in my legs disappearing. It was very weird! All the way through the op,I could still wiggle my toes. Two nurses were fiddling around down there so I asked what they were doing.! "Putting the catheter in, but its done already." I forgot all about that part!..anyway..it was nothing. About ten minutes later, my Gynae arrived and we started. My husband by my side, watching in disbelief while they started cutting. Once they got to the baby, they had problems with her position. We already knew she was breech but when it came to getting her out, my abdominal muscles were to tight and were causing problems with her delivery. They eventually got the little body out but her head was stuck tight. This is when I started to panic because the doctor no longer looked cool calm and collected... he even asked the anaesthetist to please push down on my tummy to deliver the head. I had 6 arms pushing down on the top of my tummy to try squeeze my little girl out. My husband said that when she did finally come out, she was totally limp, she didnt cry... nothing. Then the doctor gave some oxygen and she was fine. She scored 8 and 9 on her apgars. She was wrapped up. As soon as I heard her start to cry, thats when I started! Then I looked at my husband... even though he said he wouldnt, he cried like a girl! ha ha She was handed to my husband and he held her at my head while they st_tched me up. She was so gorgeous! Now tings were real... she is here!! Anyway... I was wheeled into recovery where I stayed for a half an hour. My husband in the meantime followed the midwife and my daughter up to the nursery where they had her in an incubator for 2 hours to get her body temperature up. In recovery they just kept checking the wound for bleeding, my heartrate and blood pressure. Once I ws given the all-clear I was wheeled up to the ward to wait for my daughter to be brought to me. She stayed with me for the rest of the day but stayed in the nursery that night so I could recover. The next morning my drip and catheter was taken out at 5 O Clock and I was up and about soon after that. Its a bit sore at first but once youre up its fine. Take all the pain meds offered to you.. dont be brave!!!! Thats the advice I got and boy did I take it! I got out of hospital a day early, and now Im at home with my little angel. The cut is still sore obviously but it's nothing unbearable. I can look after my daughter and rest, which is all thats expected of me anyway. My husband is a great help and I love him for it! I just wish I didn't have this cut now.. Im dying to get better and enjoy being mother.... Good luck everyone!!!! Its not as bad as some people make it out to be!! If you have a positive outlook on things.. you'll have a positive outlook.. SIMPLE AS!!! XXXXXXXXXXXXX
