My c-section last week was not nearly as bad as I thought I appreciate everyone's inputs and support. It prepared me prior to the section. My daughter (we didn't know the s_x of the baby) was born healthy and my dh and I are elated (I think he really wanted a girl). My question is my gross stomach. I used to be in really good shape prior to pregnancy. My stomach still looks like I am 4 months pregnant. I did exercise throughout the pregnancy but nothing like before. Does this go down at all? How long does it take? Also, my feet and fingers are still swollen just as before I gave birth. I am not sure why. Thank you all again! Alison

Congrats Alison. The swelling does go away (with my first and third it reached HIP level immediately after birth- yuck). Usually within 2-3 weeks. Your stomach will probably go back to normal (or close to it), but it takes awhile. I think it was a good 6 months for me- of course with a c-section you can't work out the stomach muscles for awhile, but you can ask your doctor when to start working out again.

Conrats on your new baby girl. Being surgery, yuor stomach will take a while to go down. It is still swollen inside and is recovering. It needs time to heal from the major surgery you just had. Just give that time and you will get back to normal. As far as the swelling goes you should contact your dr. Although that can be perfectly normal sometimes it can be a red flag for more serious things, so I'd give your dr's office a call. Once again, congrats on your new baby and good luck.

See your doctor about the swelling. I didn't sell until after I delivered. When the swelling didn't subside within the week of delivering, I went to the doctor. Turned out my blood pressure why high. It still is and I'm being treated for it. I'm not saying that's what's going on with you, but it's better to be on the safe side.

I got really swollen after my second c-section. I actually had so much swelling in my legs that I had red streaks from the knees down. My doctor said that happens sometimes. It took 2 weeks to go away. In my case, my blood pressure had actually gotten lower after I gave birth, so that wasn't the cause of the swelling.

Thank you, this gives me some hope. Like always, I appreciate everyone's input and well wishes. I did contact the dr. about my swelling she was not concerned, I have an appt with her next week. Thank you again.

i,too, had a c-section last wk and was having the exact same feelings. it's been 10 days now and my swelling in my legs and feet is almost completely gone and my stomach seems to go down a little more everyday,so hang in there. my stomach is definitely going to need some firming up,though. i wonder when we'll be ok to do ab work. i'm healing great and have been moving around as normal since about 5 days post-op. my stomach around incision is still sore but other than that,i'm great. i'm ready to exercise.

I had the same and it all went away after about 2 months, maybe a bit more or less. My son is now almost 5 months and I've lost all the weight, no bloating and my stomach is flat almost sucked in looking. It's not a very long time to wait since it goes by so fast and you'll be busy with your baby.

Thanks all. I think the most frustrating thing I see are all of the skinny's out there right after they give birth. They are back in their normal clothes. I for one cannot go there. My stomach is still gross after two weeks.. I hope it goes away at a healthy rate. Of course the end result was worth it...

Hi, I am pretty sure I'll be scheduled for a c-section 9/13. My baby is still breech at 36 weeks. Just wondering where the scar will be-is it really low enough to still wear a two-piece bathing suit? Also, afterwards when you see your doctor, do they still bother with an internal exam even if you didn't deliver v____ally? I just hated being checked (I get so creeped out about him looking in there with that big fluorescent light!), so I hope not! Everyone's experience sounds okay, though. I thought for sure I'd have a v____al birth, but I guess some things arte out of our control!

Hello Aimes
The scar is very low, so you should be able to wear a two piece again. I am not sure if they will do an internal exam, they did it to me at 38 weeks and of course the external exam to see where the baby was. I wish you luck, it's not nearly as bad as I thought it would be, I was nervous until the very moment I heard my daughter's first cry. Hopefully your baby will turn on his own.
