I am 35 weeks pregnant and my doctors has referred me for a CT scan on my pelvis because I have previously had a c-section, I have been reading up on the net about CT scans during pregnancy, and alls I can manage to find is sites saying that CT scans are generally not preformed during pregnancy due to the risk to the baby, so why has my doctor not told me about these so called risks? Is it safe to do this procedure or will it harm my baby? has anyone out there had a CT scan during pregnancy? please if you have or you know anything about CT scans during pregnancy could you please reply asap as I am going for the scan tomorrow at 11.30 am australian time. I am so worried about this but then at the same time I keep thinking if it was dangerous my doctor would have told me.

Well the first question is why do you need a CT scan of your pelvis? I would not be getting one done unless there was absolutly no other way I could get a safer procedure done. it is your dr's responsibility to inform you of ALL the risks in any procedure he wants you to do. If it is because you had a csection he wants the scan u/s's can be done to determine where the baby is sitting, scar thickness, and alot of other things. I have had 3 previous csections and none of my dr's and specialists have recommended a CT scan.

I was wondering the same thing as DBNO. Are you trying a VBAC and that's why they want to scan you? Well, I guess you've already had it or refused it by now, but good luck on your delivery!

The benefits of the CT scan have to out weigh the risks. I had a CT scan at 32 1/2 weeks of pregnancy because I was diagnosed w/ cancer. The CT Scan did not affect my baby. We actually got to see his organs and confirm that the cancer had not spread. That baby is now a VERY healthy 5 year old and I am a cancer survivor. I was recently pregnant and was going to have a CT Scan at 20 weeks of pregnancy to monitor my remission. Unfortunately, I lost the baby at 19 weeks. The CT Scan was going to be performed w/out the dye. My cancer doctor told me that after 20 weeks the baby's most vital organs have developed and after that point it is the safest time. I hope this helps.
