I had staples. It wasn't an option at all. They do not hurt when they take them out a few days later. No pain at all. So don't worry about the tolerance of pain for that reason. After the staples are removed they put strips on the incision and then they will eventually fall off. Catheter was put in after I had my epidural. Again no pain there with it going in or out. Don't worry. They will make everything as comfortable as possible for you.

I recenly heard of a new stapler that uses absorbable staples which don't have to be removed so you don't have the added pain. The scarring is supposed to be minimal too. I recall the site was insorb.com. I'd say it's worth asking the dr. if that's an option.

I had st_tches and they were great. I didn't get any infections and recovered well. I am also overweight.
One more thing they don't put the catheter in until after you get the spinal. You don't get an epidural for a planned c-section!

I've heard stiches do hurt a little when being removed so as am pregnant again and this is a planned c section(last one was emergency .. that's another story lol ) am plannin well hoping they use staples again. I did imagine that i would have scars where the staples were but no it's just my incision scar which i forget is there sometimes which suprised me as well i thought i would've been depressed with it all but when i do look at the scar it gives me all the memories of my beautiful little boy being brought into the world ..As For The Cathetar I Never Felt That Eithers although it could be different this time as i won't have the gas n air n pethedine beforehand .. please let me kno how you get on Gd Luck With Everyhin Nichole xxx

First of all, I have not had staples, I had disolvable st_tches, and honestly in my experience, my wound looks amazing and nothing had to be removed i just had some tape over the incision for a few days afterwords. I was really nervous about the staples thing as well, but from what my dr told me either way works and its not bad, he just prefered the st_tches. Second the catheter...GL!! I couldnt believe they didnt wait to put mine in...it hurt!!! I dont know y they didn't and if i would of known it was going to be so uncomfortable i would of definitally requested they wait until after i was numb down there!!! :) Definitally make a request with your doctor and hospital! I would.

I had st_tches every time. Mine healed well... I barely have a scar anymore. s_xyhacker- I also had the catheter put in when I could feel it. Well, the first time I was in labor and had had the epi already, but I still felt the catheter, 2nd baby- I had a scheduled C with a spinal, but they put the cath. in before the spinal. Third C- I had to be put under general anesthesia and someone said they were going to put it in when I was asleep and right after that... I mean like 5 seconds later... in it went... JOY! :-(....Anyway, they weren't super painful or anything to me, but it would have been nice to not feel it!!

I have had 3 csections and staples every time though my last csection I was so swollen because they had to leave me open to wait for 2 other surgeons to ok my appendix that my stables started comming lose the next day. By day 5 two staple had fallen out and others were comming out and catching on my panties it was really uncomfortable and somewhat painful. need less to say I am due June 10 and I will ask for staples again just because I know staples work for me and my scar looks fantastic considering I have been cut into 3 times. As for the catheter I wish as well that they waited til you are numb down there before inserting it but I think they prefer to do it while your not numb so you can tell them if something doesnt feel right. I have had to had a catheter 4 times in my life 3 for csection and once when my bladder shut down because of tylenol 4's. After having to wear one for over 24 hours and being in extreme discomfort I feel I can handle this one a little better.

Everybody semms to be saying this, but I'll agree that staples are great. I had staples with both c-sections and had no trouble either time. The worst of my problems was that the nurse who took out the staples the second time MISSED ONE! This could also happen with st_tches, though, so take that with a grain of salt. Not pregnant, I'm 125 lb. I recommend asking the doc to see both the tool they use to insert the staples AND the one they use to take them out. I did, and that really eased my mind. I was a little weirded out wondering how in the world they put them in. They even demonstrated how they put the in by putting a few staples in a piece of cloth. It was very interesting. Also, I had a dressing on top of the staples, so they never caught in anything. I didn't even notice they were there, especially since they were out before I left the hospital.
