Hey! Just thoght I'd post my three c-section stories- they are all very different. May give those wondering about it a little idea of what goes on in an emergency C vs. scheduled C! Here's the first...*my times are approximate*... My water broke in a small trickle with my firstborn (4:00am). I'd been having strong BH's since about midnight. We went to the hospital (7:00am) and not much was happening (cxtn-wise). I was 1 day away from being two weeks overdue! They gave me pitocin (9:00am) and I began having ctxns- one on top of another- they were soo painful and never let up. I was given Stadol- a sedative (2:30pm)- and was conscious, could feel the pain, but didn't seem to care- weird! When that wore off (4:00pm) I began having to push- it was soo painful and awful- especially when I found out I was only 1/2 cm dilated! I couldn't help but push, and the nurses were telling me to stop before I hurt myself, but I couldn't. There was so much pressure I thought my insides would all come out. Then a nurse told me to get an epidural before I ruptured something. I was glad for her, because I couldn't think enough to speak and ask for it at that point! I got it and it was such a relief. I was too tired to even open my eyes by then (11:00pm) after hours of that pushing pain! Then, my water broke- several times in a row- all huge gushes- and there was meconium in the fluid. They decided to do a c-section. They were taking their time shaving me, etc., but then ds's heart rate began going up and down very erratically and things jumped into motion! Before I knew it I was in the OR, had my epidural pumped full and the anesthesiologist was running a cold brushy thing over my chest to make sure I could still feel everything from chest up! Suddenly I couldn't breathe and turned to him in panic!! He said, "It's just the baby coming out from under your ribs" and a few seconds later I could breathe again! I hadn't even known the doctor had made the incision yet!!! Next thing I knew I heard, "It's a boy" and he was cleaned and handed to my DH, who brought him over for me to see. Then he went with the nurses to take our ds to the nursery. After the c-section I went to my regular room (no recovery room as the hospital was only in it's 2nd day open and was a bit disorganized!!) Anyway, I began vomiting and shaking uncontrollably, which subsided after a few hours. My c-section had been at midnight and my son was brought to me the next morning at 7:00am- he had blood sugar problems because he was big (9 lbs. 5 oz. 21"), so they had been trying to regulate that. He nursed right away at that time! Anyway, recovery was rough with that one. I forgot to say that early on in my labor they said I wouldn't be able to have an epidural or a c-section because of extremely low platelets, but ended up needing both. I think the recovery was so rough because I really feel I should have had a blood transfusion. I was VERY weak and pale for WEEKS! Anyway, the next two weren't as hard to recover from... their stories to follow...
