When Is A C Section NOT The Best Idea

Hello. I have been told that my doctors are going to try to avoid a c-section at nearly all costs. I have a pulmonary condition that is highly sensitive to anesthesia and the resultant hypotension that can result. Has anyone had this problem? I want a va___al birth anyhow, but would like to know if anyone had a medical condition that made surgery more dangerous than usual but needed a c-section anyway. Thanks for any info or experiences.

Hello! I personally did not have problems that contraindicated a c-section, but I did get the hypotension so bad that my doctors were yelling at each other. It was caused by hemorrhaging and a "high spinal" which means too much medicine for my body weight, liver and amount (in my case the lack of...)body fat. My friend's friend was told to avoid a c-section because she had a neurological condition that would be exacerbated by surgery. I know that certain heart ailments also make surgery more risky than it already is. Hope all goes well for you!

I was not a good candidate because I have the female equivalance of hemophilia, I bleed more than most people. I had to have a c anyway due to big-headed baby and I did hemorrhage so much I needed 4 units of blood and a clotting agent. That is a big NO NO after any surgery, because you can form dangerous clots. I am staying with one baby because I don't want to have another c-section due to the pain and the dangers of them. I also had an asthma attack during the c-section. C-sections are just too risky as far as I am concerned. I hope if you end up needing one that you are well cared for and that your lung condition can be managed.

Thanks so much for your responses. I have been sent to high-risk OB and the doctor was fantastic! He has delivered several other women successfully who have my condition. I have never met other women with my condition, a rare form of pulmonary stenosis and low levels of a surfactant substance that keeps the lungs from collapsing. The rigors of labor will actually aid in keeping the pressure in my lungs at a good level for me and a spinal would lower my BP and thus lower the air pressure in my lungs. Weird, I know, but hopefully my son will be average or a bit small at birth and all this worry will be for naught.
