Will My 2nd Section Be Scheduled

I ended up having to have a c/s with my first son. I am now due in June. The hospitals in my area don't do VBAC's so I'll be having another. I am wondering will they let me go to term and/or go into labor or will they schedule me ahead of time so that I don't begin labor?

Usually they will schedule you. Some docs give you a surgery date months in advance, others wait to see how things are going first. They won't let you go into labor. They usually schedule the c-section around 38 or 39 weeks. My doc started checking my cervix at 34 weeks, to be sure I didn't go into labor before my scheduled c/s. He didn't give me a date for the surgery months in advance because my first c/s was because of preeclampsia, and we didn't know if I'd have the same problems and need to have my second baby early too.

I am confused, I do not feel that your hospital has the right to insist on any procedure, ESPECIALLY major abdominal surgery, without giving you the choice, unless you are dying or are unconscious, where "implied consent" applies. This is disturbing to me, this trend, insurance companies deciding on forced c-sections. Well, since it is too late for you to do anything about it, they will schedule it ideally before you go into labor at about 38-39 weeks.

In response to "I am..." the reason that they don't do VBAC's here is that it is a rather small hospital and they don't have the constant full staff of anesthesiologists etc... Therefore it is really unsafe. I would be upset about it if it were for any other reason myself. Although I must say personally, I would probably elect a c/s anyway because I would hate to go through anything like what i went through with my first birth and then again have to have a c/s on top of it.

Shawn- I am also due in June and am having my second c-section. My first one was due to low amniotic fluid and the baby being breech. My doctor said that we will plan on a 39 week delivery, but if I'm ready sooner, then so be it. I am so excited!! Good luck to you!
