Hiya everyone, im Jen. Im 7 weeks pregnant, and i had to have a c section with my son because of the pelivs space, apparantly its too small to fit a babys head through. So i had my c scetion, but when i got home, it got badly infected, i was a single mom then and it was very scary dealing with this on my own. Does anyone know any tips on how to minimise the risks of getting an infection? Im really scared, really dont want to go through that again, it was horrible. I feel i lost out on my sons first months and our bonding because i was so ill. thanks for reading xx

Other than keeping your incision clean, and diligently following your doctors orders (as in not over doing things) - there's no telling whether you'll get an infection or not, sometimes they just happen! You said you were a single mom THEN - is that to say you have a partner this time that can help out? If not, do you have family or friends near by that can come and a__sist? If there is absolutly no one, I suggest doing lots of things before hand to prepare. Arrange for childcare for your son, make a lot of meals that can just be heated, set up something that you can grab to help you get out of bed - just go through all the complications you had the first time, and think about what you could do to fix it. As for bonding, don't give yourself grief over it! You are your son's mother and he loves you to death. There are babies in nicu for months that bond just fine with their parents - I was one of them! I was apart from my mother for for 6 weeks when I was born, and 25 years later, she's my best friend.

punky_jen~ Make sure your present doc knows you had such a complication last time and ask that antibiotics be given to you prophylactically, meaning during your c-section so the medicine is ALREADY in your system before the bacteria can enter your system. I wish you luck!

I was told in the hospital to keep a maxi-pad over the incision, so that it would stay dry and heal better.

ok djh i will try that with my doc, but i think i might change docs soon, as my doc from last time wasnt very understanding or supportive.

A good doc makes all the difference in the world...I was amazed how much better my second c-section was than my first. The incision was a lot smaller, which really made a difference in how much I could move around afterwards.
