I have to have high risk C section due to fibroids, and they r going to cut into the top of my uterus - i am scared of uncontrolled bleeding...anyone know any info on the risks of c sections, do women still die in this surgery??

I guess there is always the possibility of complications. I had a c-section and everything went fine. C-Sections are very common now days, so I would not worry at all. Think positive and put trust in the doctors.

Your body has a higher volume of blood toward the end of pregnancy, to cope with the normal loss of blood during childbirth. The hospital you're having your baby at will be equipped to deal with any emergencies that may arise. You'll be just fine, try to quit worrying and start looking forward to your baby.

really?? you have more blood near the end of you pregnancy for when you bleed?? wow- thats good to know!! ty!

Yeah, I've read it whenever you see a breakdown of pregnancy weight gain, there's a couple of pounds of weight gain from having an increased volume of blood. If it makes you feel better, my husband told me during my c-section there was a big pool of blood and fluids under the operating table, and I didn't have to have a transfusion or feel really weak or anything like that. Just make sure you're taking your prenatal vitamins with iron, so your body has what it needs to make the extra blood.

i will do that!! u didn't feel weak at all?? thats a bit of a relief!! My C has to be in the top of the uterus, so there will apparently be even more blood loss....

I was a little worn out after the c-section, but that was because they tried to induce my labor for a day and a half before they did the c-section. Since your c-section is planned, you won't have to do that first. I found my book where I'd read about blood volume, so I can tell you exactly what it said. It's "What to Expect When You're Expecting", and it's a question about blood transfusions. It says: Only 2% of c-section deliveries require a transfusion. A woman typically loses 2-4 cups of blood during a c-section. This loss presents no problem since in pregnancy the blood volume is up 40% - 50% anyway.

i will look that up!! that is very cool, the wonders of the body!! my fear is subsiding a bit...oddly enough i have had 5 surgeries for various thins, so i know the drill, and was just fine every time...but i guess i also know the risks, and have had to have 2 transfusions....and they ok too...in fact they help quite a bit.......but even better if its not needed!!

i just had my third c-section on july 7. It too was a high transverse cut. I had adhesions. the doc. sais it was going to be tricky could cut my bladder etc. I was scared . The doc. was prepared as were the other doctors there and everything went great!!!!!! My bladder wasnt cut and I didnt need a hysterectomy which was a possibility if things didnt go well... You will be fine The doctors are aware of your fibroids so you are ahead of the game. Dont worry and get sleep before the baby is born... I forgot how little sleep you get from the moment that precious bundle is born...

your bladder can be cut?? o boy....didn't know that one!!!is that very risky?? glad 2 hear u made out well and it went fine.

That's why they use a catheter during the c-section, to keep your bladder empty and out of the way. The catheter doesn't hurt and your body does remember when to pee afterwards (I was worried about that).

so what r the chances they cut your bladder then?? that would be awful...i have had catheters before- i found it hurt when it came out, but i also had an undiagnosed uti- so thats probably why!!!

my bladder rwas adhered to my uterus due to scar tissue (adhesions) from my first c-section and then my second one. . They put a dye into my bladder to make sure it wasnt nicked when they got to the uterus. because they were antcipating the problem. Normally all your organs ( intestines, bladder etc.) move or slide over the uterus but scar tissue acted as if crazy glue was in my abdomen and things get adhered to one another. They knew this problem cause it happened with my second one. They were prepared.. Your docs know about the fibrods you will be okay. When are you due.

dylan - August 7

ahh...so thats not a common thing, but i guess if they know what to expect they can prepare for it....now lets just hope my little man waits til our scheduled day so i can get my ob- not whoevers on call!!!!

Best of luck to you. Is this your first c-section? If you need info. on recovery and what to expect I will be happy to share with you. When are you due?

dylan - August 9

yes sara, it is my first c section - and only 2 months away - oct 10!! is receovery hard?? the thought of recovering from surgery and taking care of a newborn is pretty overwhelming!

How exciting for you and your family. Knowing what to expect is the first step toward you recovery because it will allow you to be prepared. Not only are you having a baby you also are having major surgery. The only surgery with a beautiful gift at the end. The actual surgery is painless!!!!! The nurses and anthesiologists will talk to you thru the Sx. The Doc. may to but often they are to busy concentrating.. Recovery they will monitor your blood pressure and make sure your uterus is contracting . After a spinal you may feel very itchy (side effect) they can give you benadryl in your IV. You also need to wear compression equipment on your legs for 24 hours after Sx. It sounds like Darth vader my son told me. They dont hurt they are just annoying. As soon as they let you get up out of bed the healing begins. They remove the catheter first no big deal from your bladder. Walk as much as you can. Pain medicine is there for you . so that you can walk around and feel okay. The first time you get out of bed the nurses will help you. It feels strange like you wont be able to do it but you do and you can... If possible see if you can have help for atleast the first 2 weeks you are home. You wont be allowed to go up and down stairs more than 1x a day. You cant drive for 2 weeks... Usually the ped. wants to see the baby a few days after you get home. It will take time to feel like you self and with each day you do feel better and better. I cant believe my baby is already 4weeks old. Today I physically feel close to my old self. Also no heavy lifting for 6 weeks... I It can be fustrating not being able to run to the baby when it cries and with fluctuating horomones you can get weepy it is all normal..... Line up help and your recovery will be that much better. ..
