I am 34 wks pregnant with #3. I had 2 completely natural va___al births previously. I was told I have to have a C this time, and I am scared. What should I expect? I have never had any epidurals/spinals, and don't know how I will react to them. Will I feel sick? Will there be alot of pain? Is recovery as bad and as long as I have heard? I don't take pain meds, I can't, so I have to try to recover without the use of them. Im so scared!!!! Any info, would be helpful. THANKS.

I've had three and they weren't too bad with pain meds. Don't think I'd try one without, though...

Hi there. Don't be scared. There is some recovery and you'll need the meds. See my C-Section in a nutshell entry. You will be sick for the most part of that first day and if you get upper chest pain tell them to give you something for gas and it'll go away immediately. Ask no matter what time of day it is if ithis happens. Besides my gas dilemma, I was doing everything as usual when I got home a few days later, walking around, carrying my baby, doing laundry even...

I've only had one c-section, but it was my 1st med procedure ever. I was terrified. But I have to say it was not that bad. I only threw up once, when they changed the mixture of meds right before surgery. My recovery was ok. The only pain med I was given was like an x-strength tylenol. Bending and moving will be the hardest part. And you'll definitely need help in the shower! And don't be fooled if you're feeling ok. I went to the grocery store the day after I came home. I knew it was a mistake before I made it through the door. Good luck!

I just realized that this will be your third. I read it, but wasn't really thinking about that. Is there ANYTHING you can take for pain. It is pretty hard coming home to 3 kids after a section, especially w/out pain meds, because you can't slow down or relax when baby is sleeping. Is there anyone who can stay with you? That would help. My recoveries weren't too bad, but I needed pain meds.- there's a wide variety, anyway... some are easier recoveries than mine, some are more difficult from what I've seen on here.

Thanks for the info! I just found out I have to have an Amnio the day before my surgery, has anyone had one of these? With my last child, I had a uterine rupture and a 3rd degree tear, so I was told the C Section would be way easier than that? I hope so!

Hello, I just gave birth to my 4th child and it was my first time I had a c-section due to he was too large, at first I was very nervous and scared, I cried in the O.R. - But then when it was all over - I realized that it was not that bad after all. The recovery was different, but all good as long as I took the meds - after a week after the c-sec I was able to walk somewhat normal, now it's been 5 weeks and I feel terrific, and I also had a Tubaligation on top of the c-sec. :) If you're scared - it's ok, it's normal they say, and they will take care of you, just make sure that you speak up whatever your concerns are to them, and they will rea__sure you I'm sure. Good luck to you! Hope all comes out well in the end :)

There's no need to be scared of a c-section. I'd be more scared of pushing that baby out, especially w/out any anesthesia! I had psyched myself up to do it the natural way, then turned out it wasn't going to happen that way. I got the epidural, they numb the area and that kinda hurts depending on your pain tolerance. Then you can feel the catheter going up your spine but it's not painful, just strange. My epi made everything from my waist down tingle, like how when your foot falls alseep. I don't think it was supposed to do that. So then, you're in the OR laying on the table, can't feel the doc cutting but I asked, "am I smelling burning flesh?" from the cautery knife. Then, I'm told I'm going to feel tugging. I've never in my life felt that much pressure - but no pain. Dh was watching and he said doc and nurse were playing tug of war with my incision - he thought they were going to rip me open. Then, baby's out and it was the most precious moment of my life! I started crying of course. Doc sewed me up, I went to recovery and soon after started getting the shakes. Really bad. From some type of drug they put in the epi. I shook so bad I couldn't even hold Aiden to try to feed him. I missed out on the first couple hours of his life! :( Not only did I shake but the left side of my face swelled up. Have no clue what that was from and I don't remember if I asked. Got to my room and the shakes and swelling started to subside. They kept me doped up with morphine, which made my face itch like mad but I was never in pain. I had Aiden in the evening and I was up walking the next day. Slowly at first but walking.
You wanted some info so I gave some - it's a little long but I wanted to give you some details. Some of it's scary but I didn't think much of it at the time. It's all worth it though and I'd do it that way again in a heartbeat. I could pa__s on that itchy morphine though!

Just thought I'd add after km- I had itchiness, too, with my 2nd C. Mine was from the anti-nausea meds, but then they gave me something for the itching and it went away. It itched so bad on my face I wanted to scratch my eyes out, but once they gave me the anti-itch meds it was better and I was warm and sleepy and comfy- a nice way to go through surgery;) So, maybe you can ask if there's something they can give you if it happens to you. It didn't happen with my first baby- I didn't have anti-nausea meds w/ him and I kept throwing up after the C for a few hours. That's why they automatically gave it to me the 2nd time. I was under general anesthesia for the 3rd, so I didn't have the itching with that delivery!

Like km, I also tried to deliver naturally and it wasn't possible so they had to do a section. For me, it was not a good experience. I got the shakes before I went into the OR and was extremely nauseous and when they snapped pictures of my DD being born, you can see me in the background throwing up. What's worse, they gave me some meds that made me forget things. I had to ask my husband exactly what happened because I couldn't remember. To this day I can't remember much of my daughter being born. I asked my doctor and she said there are different meds that can be used that don't affect your memory and she would see about it if I ever have another child. She was on vacation when I delivered so I had a different doctor that I didn't have a chance to discuss things with beforehand because I didn't know. I did not care for the section and would have preferred to go naturally but unfortunatley, it didn't turn out like that. I was even depressed about it for some time afterwards because I really missed the whole birth experience of my daughter.

Hi nervousmama I have had a c section with my first child due to alot of complications they did the surgey at 32 weeks. They tell u not to eat for like 24 hours so that when u get ur shot in ur back because u could get sick and throw up which is a very bad thing so do what they tellu without eating its better than not having to have more complications. The drugs make u a little weary and a little bit out of it but once u see you baby all of it goes away. The recovering part is a little harder i had 11 staples and after the meds wear off it hurts to sneeze cough laugh and they try and make u sit up and get out of bed so u dont have blood clots its painful but after a couple weeks u start to feel alot better but honestly i was scared to death but in the end it wasnt as bad as i thought it would be.

Why do you have to have the c-section this time? Don't get too worried about it, but since the vast majority of c-sections are unneccessary, I'd get a second opinion before giving in.

I have had 4 c sections I ve never had a natural birth so I have nothing to compare it to but I personaly didnt mind my c sections I got over them very fast but everyone is different I was scared out of my tree when I had the first one wich I think its really natural to be scared but after you tend to think it wasnt really that bad after all the only thing you really had to do is when you are told to take it easy that means TAKE IT EASY you have just had major surgery and if you dont becareful you can do a lot of damage get someone else to do ur washing - vac_ming ect for at least a month if not more just relax and enjoy your baby and leave the house work up to everyone else

first, i will say calm down, but in my experince that is easier said than done! :) I had 3 v____al births completely normal, and a week and 1/2 ago gave birth via csection to my breach baby boy! luckily mine was planned, it went very smooth start to finish! i showed up at the hospital 2 hours before they preped me...started iv, catheter, shaved, and did their best to calm me down. once preped they took me to the or, where my spinal was inserted. the worst part was a small pinch and burn, honestly i thought the catheter was worse! i was numb very quickly and wide awake. my son was delivered within 10 min. i got to see him and my sons daddy got to hold him emidiately. took about 30 more min cause i had my tubes tied also and they stiched me up. then they took me back to my room for an hour of recovery without visitors cept babys dad. i had morphine drip until next day. i also have been on pain meds since. i can tell you that your body will let u know if u over do things...i would not attempt csection without meds, but as far as v____al vs csection not bad either way, besides you get the end result,,, a healthy baby! dont worry!!!

I had an emegency c-section, very welcome after almost 30 hrs of unproductive labor and a baby stuck in my pelvis. I did fine, I was walking within 12hrs of surgery and the most pain meds I took after were an ibuprofen 800 and 1/2 a vicodin. I think the worst part for me was I got really cold and was shaking because I was freezing, but in recovery they put a hairdryer type heater thing on me and warm blankets, they felt really good. I will say 6wks out I do have some tenderness in my back from where my epidural was, but I got my epi 1/2 way thru my labor and I must say the thing was way worth it. I felt so much better. I had a perfect pregnancy, no complications who'd have thought I'd have to have an emergency c-sec, I sure didn't, but now at least I know if I have any more kids I will just be scheduled for one and I am way okay w/ that. Good luck.
