Hello all, i was just curious as to wether or not a hospital can refuse your request to have a cesarean? i have spoken to my doctor about having a cesarean as i am having heart troubles with this pregnancy, (palpatations and chest pains) and the doctors cannot find anything wrong, i have had numerous scans and ECG's that all show my heart rate gets dangerously high even when i do simple things such as laying down, but the doctors still cannot pin point a problem, and have just given up in hope it will pass once i have my baby. i'm not confident my heart would cope with labour so i have asked my doctor numerous times if i could have a cesarean, but she has continuously dodged the question, saying they prefer not to do ceserians unless there is a good reason to do so, basically she isnt saying no but she is talking her way out of giving me a straight answer . i just want to know if a public hospital can legally refuse your request to have a cesarian. im not the kind of girl to make a fuss, but i am truly scared that my heart will not cope during labour, and something will go wrong, or it will just exhaust me to the point of being incapable of pushing, because as i said before, it exhausts me just laying down in bed at night... i dont know if i should stand up for myself and put my foot down, or just trust that the doctors know what they are doing.

perhaps you ought to talk to a cardiologist? also, you have to remember that the dr.s oath is to do no harm, and if they thought it dangerous to let you labour, they wouldnt. c sections are MAJOR surgery and anesthetic, the surgery itself etc. can pose risks for someone with a normal heart. from what i know, you cannot demand a c-section. they are a big deal, not small cookies. trust your doctor or find someone else.

So you think major surgery and its aftermath of healing let alone the risk of complications and God forbid an infection is BETTER than going into labor naturally...!?!?! I am with your doctor on this one. Is this your first baby? Also maybe you should look deep inside yourself to see what makes your heart fluctuate. When people are under stress, depressed, frightened and the such it is actually a reaction that your heart will speed up. What exactly is dangerously high?
