i just had an emergency c section on tuesday. friday i was released from the hospital. everything has been normal until yesterday i was looking at the incision, and i noticed that in places the skin isnt attached. like, i can kind of lift up little strips of skin where its not st_tched. for the most part, the cut is all together and seems normal, but then those other parts seem like the cut is coming apart. im really worried because i dont want it to get infected or to break open. is this normal? the skin is normal colored and not leaking any fluids or anything.. HELP!

It has been my experience that wounds that are not closed properly are not good wounds, aside from wounds that MUST drain by neccessity. The more i read on these forums that tons of women have open and/or oozing/infected wounds the more I become concerned! I suggest you call your doctor and have them take a look, perhaps it is as simple as needing some more steri-strips to hold the edges together tighter, or maybe more is required. I know if it was MY incision someone had better d__n well get it closed and keep it infection free. Best Wishes for a speedy recovery and a healthy new year.

I agree with djh...check with your doctor. It may be nothing, but it's better to have it checked out. Also, if it will relieve some of your worries, the incision is sewn up in layers...the fact that the skin incision looks open doesn't mean that the incisions through uterus and muscles will come open.

Try to talk to a wound care specialist. Insist on this. My doc seemed "old school" regarding wound management and I was forced to seek out the information myself. My incision came open and my doc told me to clean it with hydrogen peroxide 3x per day. Hydrogen peroxide is no longer accepted practice in the world of wound care. Make sure to talk to someone who specializes in wounds. I ended up using Allyvyn dressings, and my wound healed up much quicker than had I followed the peroxide approach.
