becuase the hole in mt pelvis isnt big enough for a babies head to fit through. so i was wondering if the spinal block will hurt this time? i didnt feel it last time because i was up on the roof with pethidine. does the spinal block hurt, with no painkillers before hand? I dont really want to be awake, but i feel i need to be so my mind is at ease when baby is born, i need to hear that 1st cry.

Hi jen, I too am a Jenn! I have to have a planned C end of may early June due to the same thing, plus big babies, diabetes, etc. Lets just say, the first time around sucked. I do remember the spinal, it went throught the epidural that I had, so I am thinking that it will be the same thing this time. They gave my a shot in my back for the pain and then did it. This may seem silly, but are you scared?? Here lately, I have been thinking more and more about it, and with the first, I never thought about a c because i thought I would have it natural, but now I know I am having a c-and I am more afraid now then before. I think that if I was able to VBAC, I wouldn't be sooo nervous, I am OK with the section, I am just scared. I got real scared with the first too though. I too, have to hear that cry, have to-don't know why, once I heard my son I cried, and I forgot about everything that was going on. When are you due??

The spinal just feels like a lot of pressure. I think they put something on your back to numb it first...I remember something cold and wet feeling being put against my back. To be honest, the birth is so exciting that the spinal is just a dim memory afterwards.

If you want a c-section, great - but you might not *have* to have one. The pelvic bone widens to make room for the baby - it changes with each pregnancy; my stepmother had to have her first baby c-section because her pelvic bone hadn't spread enough, but her 2nd was delivered v____ally. Just fyi.

well they said the hole in my pelivs is very small, which seems odd because i have wide hips hahahaha. so its more than likely that il have to have a c section again. believe me, if i could get out of it i would. im not one of them people who wants to have a c section!

i will try, but if they think its best il go ahead with it, dont want days of labour wearing me out before the c section again.

Hey Jen, I'm in exactly the same position as you... I had a v____al birth with my first son (only just... we were minutes away from emergency C) and an emergency c-section with my second due to the fact that his head was too big to fit through the pelvis..! I am now 24 weeks pregnant and have been told that I will need to have a scheduled c-section because of the difficulty of my last labours! I'm c___pping myself because like you said when you get wheeled in to have the section your so tired and out of it from being in labour all that time you dont focus on what was happening - just want the baby to come out healthy! I feel like you are in that I'm scared of getting the spinal block when I'm fully "with it"! I also worry about the after effects because compared to the v____al delivery a c-section is heaps more painful (in my experience) and not one I'm keen to repeat...! I'd like to hear from people who have had planned c-sections to let us know about the preparation beforehand and what to expect...!!! Anyways, hopefully we'll be so preoccupied with meeting our new babies we won't even consider the painful effects...! Hopefully!! Oh and also to Jamie, no disrespect intended but I feel like Jen in that if I were able to have a v____al delivery I most certainly would, but when you have experienced an emergency c-section due to the fact that your baby's heartbeat has dropped to an alarming rate because of the difficulty of labour which resulted in them needing oxygen and monitoring at birth you will do anything in your power to protect the next little baby from going through that..! Believe me, I would love to experience a VBAC, but my doc has given me a 10% chance of succeeding, and that is not enough to risk my unborn childs life! I wish you good luck Jen and Jenn#2 and Michelle for your c-sections! Hey, maybe we could start our own "scardey cats" club???!!!

Bec - I DID have an emergency c-section. Don't presume you know anything about me just because I told a woman she doesn't HAVE to have a second c-section, and to get a second opinion. Getting a second opinion about a major surgery is just common sense.

I am so sick of you Jamie! You're on every post that has anything to do with a c-section - and you p__s people off every time! Why don't you leave everyone alone?!?! Clearly your correspondence skills are sadly lacking so just go away! Go to the infant care section and stay there!

Wow, you mean you're so insecure in yourself that someone over the internet can p__s you off? Somebody needs therapy...

I have to agree. I've been coming to this forum for quite some time, and Jaimie, you always seem to rock the boat. We're grown women - but you can't seem to disagree without being catty.

You guys all need reading gla__ses or something. My opinion has ALWAYS been that I personally would prefer a v____al delivery because I have serious emotional scarring from my c-section, but everyone should have the right to choose. I'm not the one who rocks the boat, I'm the one who gets attacked and then defends myself. Gee, I'm sorry I told someone to get a second opinion - as I said before, that's just common sense! It seems to me as though you ladies just don't like to hear that someone might not have enjoyed being gutted like a fish as much as you did.

Shame on you, i read all the posts and Jamie only said "....may not *have* to have another c-section..." and "get a second opinion.." where did you get justification for jumping on her and attacking her personally? Now that was a bit of well-honed communication skill wasn't it? Keep it less personal and civilized please, and I for one, do not mind Jamie's posts and agree with much of what she says. As far as how the spinal feels, I did not like it at all, you do feel it and it aches as they inject the medicine. ASK THAT THEY INSERT THE CATHETER AFTER YOU HAVE THE SPINAL!!!!!!! I can NOT stress that enough. Now play nice everyone.

yeah i will ask for the cathetar to be put in after the spinal block, i remember how it felt when the midwife did it when i was in labour. god knows why she did that, i wasnt even going for the c section at tht time. i remember it hurt like hell though. i think jamie had a point about the 2nd opinion, but she came across a bit agressive to oter people. no offence jamie. x
