When you're overweight, you're more likely to have a c-section. I didn't have an infection after either of my c-sections. (and I'm about double my recommended weight) Keep the incision clean (get a detachable showerhead if you can, so you can direct the water to the right spot) and dry (I used a sanitary pad over the incision, and changed it a couple of times a day). I also lay on my back a couple of times a day, held my tummy out of the way and let a fan b__w on the incision, to get it really dry.

I am overweight and the only problem I had was that the incision didn't heal right on its own. They said it was because of increased fat cells below the skin. They had to order me Home Health and they put a Would Vac on the incision. They had to come out 3 times a week for a few weeks. During that time I was unable to drive myself anywhere. Due to insurance policies you have to be homebound. Otherwise I would have had to get a ride to the dr's office 3 times a week. The Wound Vac really limits your mobiliy, so I had to stay with my Mom so she could help me with the baby. Thank God for Mom!!

Not all people that are overweight have problems with c-section. My son is going on 3 and only recently have seen the scar that was left because my tummy hangs down over the incision. We finally got a mirror that is low enough for me to be able to see. I had no complications after my c-section.

Hello ladies, may I ask a question? Why are overweight women likely to have a c-section? My skinny little cousin weighs 90 pounds and stands 4 feet 10 inches. She had a 7 pound baby v____ally with no problem. My neighbor is about 5 feet 5 and weighs about 180 and she had to have a c-section with a 6 pound baby. It was due to failure to progress, but no position probs, or heart rate or the usual "emergencies". She just labored and nothing happened. Do you all know why? My husband is a freak (LOL) and says his friend has a plus-size wife and says that because she has more padding than skinny ladies, she also has more padding in her v____a...you get the point. I thought he was an idiot until I thought about it, would that make less room for the baby?

Overweight ladies are more likely to have a c-section because they are more likely to have high blood pressure or gestational diabetes, either of which might make it necessary to have a baby earlier than the due date. If they try to induce and your body just isn't ready, then nothing happens...and that's how some people end up with the c-section. I have heard that about there being more padding in the birth ca___l. I don't know how true it is.

Thanks, JBear, you always have thoughtful and rea__suring, realistic responses, I hope you are in a position to be a mentor to many a young mother. Of course, your most valuable contribution is that such a lovely person is raising children. I really hesitated to ask that question and I appreciate your candor.
