h__lo i have read alot of your post and you are very insightful..i was just wondering where are you from? i have also read on the other post that you lost 80 lbs how did you do that? i am a heavy girl (275) and would love to loose the weight i just cant find anything that works...

Jbear - December 29

I'm in San Antonio, TX...I weigh 275 right now too :-( At the end of Aug 2004 I weighed 325lbs. By the end of Nov 2004 I weighed 245...then I got pregnant again. Now I'm back to 275 but I am starting a diet on Jan 1...I tried to diet right after I had my baby, but it just wasn't workng for me...When I lost the weight before, I did it by only eating 1200 calories a day. I put up a dry erase board in the kitchen, and every time I ate something, I wrote the calories on the board. When I reached 1200 for the day, I stopped. I was hungry about the first 2 weeks. Usually, my food for the day was something like this: a cup of oatmeal and half a cup of milk, a yogurt, a slice of bread, a salad (with fat-free dressing), a grilled chicken b___st, and a baked potato. For variety I would have a lo-cal tv dinner instead of the chicken and baked potato. One day a week I would eat whatever, and not count calories. I only let myself get on the scale once a week. I was actually suprised and a little worried that I lost the weight as fast as I did. I was upset when I got pregnant again, because I'd finally figured out the diet that worked for me and I didn't want to stop. I think I'm going to do the same thing again, because it worked for me before. It will be harder this time, because my husband was on the diet with me last time (he was eating 1500 calories a day) but this time he doesn't need the diet...he started at 245 and is now 160...so I won't have him for a diet buddy this time.

Jbear, were you b___stfeeding when you went on that diet?

Jbear - December 29

No, I wasn't b___stfeeding. Valerie was already 2 and a half, but I'd never been able to b___stfeed her. I've heard you shouldn't try a strict diet while you're b___stfeeding, because your body stores toxins in fat cells, and when you lose weight the fat breaks down and the toxins are released. I don't know how true that is, though.

wow j bear...see the problem with me is that i know what i need to eat and i know what foods are good for you, but i can never seem to stick it out..i always screw it up...i have a food addiction and i think i need ice cream and all that c___p...i dunno i am also trying another diet on the 1st and will see what happens it is so hard though...good luck to you

When I'm dieting, I don't keep anything in the house that is easy to snack on. I also don't bake anything. That's the hardest part for me. If I decide I have to have some ice cream or a candy bar, I go and buy a pint of ice cream instead of a half gallon, or a single candy bar instead of a bag of candy. It's really hard. Food is such a comfort. I think that's why my diet didn't work right after I had my baby, because I felt bad so I kept eating. I don't know...I'm not trying to get really thin. When I weighed 180 I wore a size 12, that would be good enough for me. I would like to be thinner than either of my sisters, though.

wow well you sure have will power...good luck to you..how did your husband loose his weight just by the 1500 cal diet? that is amazing and does he still eat 1500 in order to keep it off? i really hope i can do this this time cause i am so depressed about being so big.

He's eating more than that now, but he got a job where he walks all day...he has literally walked his b___t off in the last 6 months. He went from size 44 pants to a 36, almost as small as when I met him. I have a friend who lost 65lbs last year by eating 1700 calories a day. There's a website with an ugly name (http://www.am-i-fat.com/calmaintain.html) that has a calculator for how many calories you need in a day. If you put in the weight you want to be, it will tell you how many calories you need to be that weight, and if that's all you eat eventually you will get down to that weight. When I was dieting, I was taking a 12-hour sudafed every morning because it kept me from being hungry. I don't know how it is in all states, but now if you want to buy sudafed in TX, you have to get it from the pharmacy and they take your driver's license number...kind of makes me feel like I'm doing something wrong by buying it...The one thing that really kept me going on the diet was having a day off from the diet each week. At first I was pigging out on that day, but I think when you eat less for a while, your stomach (not the tummy, but the part that actually holds the food) shrinks and you can't eat as much anymore, because I got to where I didn't overeat on the day off from the diet either. I don't know how well it will work for me this time, because I'm not working anymore. I used to get a lot of exercise at work.

wow well i wish you luck and i am going to check out that site..thanks. i am a stay at home mom too and i find it very hard cause you care home to pig out all the time... oh and i bought a pilates dvd i am going to try and do that every morning

Jbear - December 29

I bought one too! Mine is called body control and it's an older woman doing the exercises. I've tried it a couple of times and it is a workout...I had sore muscles where I didn't think I had muscles when I was done. It's true about being home all the time...I love to cook and especially to bake, and now that I'm home my husband seems to expect baked goods regularly.

i hear you..it is the same here and i too love to cook and we are on a budget with me being a stay at home mom and it is so expensive to buy healthy foods it is amazing no wonder most of america is over weight.

Tell me about it...I get WIC and I feel bad if I don't manage to use up all that cheese and those eggs every month...They tell me I need to lose weight, then give me 2 dozen eggs, 2lbs cheese, 6 cans of juice, a jar of peanut b___ter...every month
