I have just been reading about what it feels like when you are in labour.Women have said that its like menstral cramps only a billion times worse, its like someone pulling your hips open, another said, imagine holding an ice cube tight, and not letting go.Another said its like all your muscles clenching up.Basically,it sounds horrific. They all say, which I don't doubt, that once the baby is there, pain is forgotten. My question is,bearing this in mind, how does it compare to pain felt after a cesarean? (i am also the person who wrote in about scared of giving birth)

I have had one of each, one was an emergency c-section,I was in pain after but the dugs controlled a large part.Giving birth naturally I felt it was going on forever,I prefered c-section

With my first son i laboured for almost 30 hours and ended up with a c-section. With my second we had a planned c-section, not something i wanted. My recovery was fine with the first one but the procedure was very painful, not to scare you but i felt the whole thing. With my second the procedure was great but the recovery was horrible. I got an infection that lasted 7 weeks. The reason why i had the c-sections is due to large babies, 9+ lbs. If i was able i would rather labour than opt for a c-section.

I have had two children, the 1st v____ally,and I was like you, very scared, this may have hindered my labour, the epi did'nt take,so relieved when it was all over.Mothers forget the pain when they see their baby,as you yourself has said.I did not forget the pain,so had a c-section.I was lucky that he was breech anyway, but before they tried to turn him I opted for the op.It was nice knowing when to go in,and yes there is pain afterwards, but the nurses help.I am not having any more kids,I believe you should not over populate the world anyway, there is no need to have so many in this day and age.Can I just say Mandy,I have seen other posts of yours, you seem very uptogether with information,I feel I am begining to know you.You have emotion, and are in a loving relationship.I think you'd make a wonderful mother.

I just had my first child. I too was very scared about how I would deal with the pain. It was not intolerable, however I did opt to have the epideral about 4 cm in to labor because I was scared of what it would be like when it actually came to delivery. I was induced so my story may be different but I ended up with an emergency c-section after fully progressing 17 hours into it. My baby's head was swelling and her pulse was elevated. In my opinion not having been through it I am hoping not to have another c section. It was harder to take care of my child afterward I feel. I'm almost three weeks past the surgery and still have discomfort from time to time

Everyone has different opinions on this topic so, you may or may not find the answer you are looking for! As for me, i was in labor with my first child(son) for over 40hrs, then had a c-section I was out to sleep for that so I wasn't sure of things that were going on! Recovery was of course not too smooth b/c of all the labor beofre it - but with having a healthy child I was more than happy to get on with it...i was more excited about my new baby than the discomfort of recovery! Like you I was very scared of going into labor and birth, but for me the last few weeks of pregnancy was so uncomfortable (big belly. peeing all night, not being able to sleep, tightenings) I just couldn't wait for it to be over and get my baby! A lot of women that I talk to tell me the same thing- they just can't wait to get that baby out! I do have another child now(girl) and i had a planned c-section on her. I was quite comfortable - nervous at first of course! i stayed awake with an epidural and things went very smooth I did not feel a thing and I got to enjoy seeing my baby for the first time! I saying all of this I know that you will get through whichever happens (c-section or natural) either way you will know that it will all be worth it in the end- Thats a promise! I hope this helps you feel a little better! Good luck to you- Oh and by the way i am having my 3rd child now and am due in January....I am just excited!
