Wow, I am sitting here wondering why my doctor didn't think of this first. I was just diagnosed with endometrial growth at my c-section incision site. My OB/GYN thought it was a hernia and sent me to a surgeon who then determined it was the endometrial growth in the incision. I would have thought of anyone my OB/GYN would have thought of this. I had my last c-section 5 1/2 years ago and have only been experiencing pain for the last few months not really realizing what it was or that it was coming monthly. Thanks girls for all the info. My surgery is scheduled for a few weeks out but hopefully recovery will be a few days like the surgeon says.
Thanks!

I am so glad I found this post. I thought I was just a wimp and complaining about nothing. I had my first C-Section Aug 3 2003 with my son. (First pregnancy). Then, I got pregnant really soon after and had my second C-section(last) child - daughter - August 21, 2004 (They are ay year and 18 days apart.). Eventhough they were close together, there were two seperate incisions. The first one was higher up and the second right on the bikini line. The first one they stapled, the second they put those dissolved st_tches in. (Two different hospitals due to change of insurance..they had different procedures.).
I had a terrible time with the second c-section from the day I had it. I could barely walk. It took me an hour to get out of the bed and go to the bathroom and get back in bed because of the pain.
The scar is still tender about 15 months. I can't have clothes rub against it. There is always a throbing inside along with a blotting, cramping and now my lower back is hurting. I thought I was pregnant several times since then, but only to had negative pregnancy test. I am on birth control pills. I made a Dr. Appt finally for it today. I am glad to read I am not alone about this. I am tired of feeling this bad.

Khristina, I had that happen too! After one of my sections I had my first period and it looked like a small peanut sized fleshy thing. I actually put it in a plastic baggy and took it to my doctors! He said not to worry, it was some residual tissue from my uterus that stayed inside after the c-section. He never did tell me exactly what type of tissue, but it looked liked a bit of muscle or fascia tissue. Gross, but you asked...tee hee!

KBuck,
I had the same thing after my c-section. I thought I was going to die if they made me get out of bed. I think it was way more pain than most experience. Also, the clothes irratating your scar - my OB told me it was becasue that area was thinner. NOT TRUE. I was diagnosed with incisional endometrioma and had surgery almost 4 weeks ago. I feel better than i have felt in forever. Start a journal of when your pain comes and goes. Mine started the first day of my cycle and last about 15 days. Though I didn't figure this out until I came to this website. Good Luck!! Nicole

Hello Ladies, First time posting here so not sure if I'm doing this correctly. First of all I feel for each and every one of you and most importantly listen to your bodies despite your doctors lack of knowledge in this area. I found this page on a google search looking for answers myself.
I am forty years old - just had a endo removed from my c-section scar. I had to convince my doctors that this pain, swelling etc was cyclic, related to my period. They didn't believe me until they actually removed the lump and the pathology report came back as endometriosis.
My c-section was performed 24 years ago!. Had surgery one month ago and have been an emotional basket case since. Extreme crying, more than the usual PMS I usually have. My doctor just the othe day offered me nothing other than anti-depressants and went so far as to tell me that my back pain, leg pain were a__sociated with my depression as well. It's as if they just aren't listening. I've had this pain for years and now that endo was found in my c-section scar it's like it will be another battle for me to get them to run other tests to diagnose it elsewhere in my body.
So everyone..........be strong and you know your body , don't let the docs let you think your'e crazy..............be pro-active. I am just learning this .......................debora

Hi everyone. I've had 2 c-sections (6/02 and 10/98), and just last month I noticed a lump near my incision site. It felt about the size of a small grape, and it wasn't anything I ever noticed before. It didn't hurt or anything at that time, but I thought I should have it checked out anyway.
I went to my OB/GYN, for my annual exam and to have the lump looked at. Everything for the annual appeared normal, and I got a referral for an ultrasound regarding the lump. I was told not to worry, as it could be anything from a lipoma to a fibroid to a keloid. Ok, fine...
So, I had an ultrasound, and it showed a ma__s, approx. 2cmx2cm in the abdominal wall. The results went back to my dr, and I went for a followup visit. My dr. said that based on the radiology report (which stated that it was indeterminate), she hypothesized that it was probably either a suture granuloma or keloid, perhaps being aggravated by an injury, such as being kicked by a child or something (although, I could not recall receiving any type of injury, she insisted it could have easily happened while my daughter was in bed with us - the little stinker sleepwalks into our room almost every night).
I could either have this lump removed or just wait and see what happens with it. She said that there is no guarantee that if I had surgery to remove it, that my body wouldn't react to the surgery in the same way as it reacted to my c-sect, thus the same kind of lump happening again.
She definitely was leaning toward the wait and see avenue, but I didn't feel comfortable just leaving it. I know how I am, and I know it would bug me, not knowing what the darn sucker is, especiall since it's been almost 4 years since my c-section and all of the sudden NOW this thing pops up. She did say that because the ma__s isn't as superficial as she had thought, she'd probably want to send me to a plastic surgeon if it were to be removed, because it appeared to be deep in the fascia and may need more done to repair it, rather than just taking the thing out.
So, after pressing her for more direction (since she just kinda said it's all up to me, and I couldn't get a clear idea from her what she thought was the best thing to do), she mentioned that maybe we could biopsy it. Sounds good to me!!! At least then I can find out if it's anything abnormal that will truly need to be removed! So, my fine needle aspiration biopsy is scheduled for April 24th.
In the meantime, I thought I would do some research because my dr's words just didn't sit well with me. I stumbled upon some information about incisional endometriomas, and the more I read, the more I felt like I found what it could be. I didn't realize it, but symptoms I had been feeling for a while now could be attributed to this. One of the things I also addressed with my dr. was severe cramping that has been increasingly painful as time goes by with each period. I noticed that it felt like a cramp in my lower abdomen that radiated to my lower back and just stayed there. It got so bad that I actually stayed home from a birthday party and laid in bed all day last month because of it, and that is NOT normal for me. My periods have been getting more and more painful as time goes on.
My dr. put me on Seasonale, which I just started 3 days ago, thinking it would help with the dysmennorhea. That's all good, but now that I look back on my mentstrual history and add the fact that I did indeed notice that the lump itself was painful too during this last period... it all leads me to wonder if it could perhaps be this incisional endometrioma.
I want to thank everyone who has posted, because I feel very well informed after reading your posts and doing some more research. I will keep you posted as to what my biopsy comes up with. Maybe someone out there can relate to my experience, like I have with many of you all here.

Hi Ladies! It's amazing how prevalent INCISIONAL ENDOMETRIOSIS is! I had one removed 1 year ago, along with some fascia, and had it repaired with mesh. Now, 1 year later I am still having problems. It seems I have MANY small pockets of endometriosis all over my abdomen, sides, pelvis, ribcage, even my back. The sites are painful, especially to the touch! Has anyone else had this problem? I am on hormones and pain killers now, and am waiting for a laparoscopy! Good Luck to Everyone...I know it can be really difficult! Rachel

Rachel, sorry to hear about your pain. Were you noticing the pain in those other "pocket" areas at the same time you had your endo removed last year? I noticed that some ladies had a laparoscopy in addition to the surgery to remove the endo, just to make sure there wasn't any more lurking around, so I was wondering if you did too. Good luck with your lap... I hope they can get rid of it all and make you feel better. It IS sort of incredible, reading through these posts and hearing of all the issues people are having all because of their c-sections. I remember my dr. encouraging me to schedule a repeat c-section because at that time VBACs were considered more risky. Now I almost feel as if we are on the brink of something, and that as more of us come out of the woodwork with these problems, the risks of c-sections will become more known. All I can say is... I wish I knew then what I know now after researching it all. I think I would have definitely gone for the VBAC. Good luck to you! - Chris

Hello everyone! It has been about 2 months since I had my incisional endometriosis removed and it was great until about 3 wks ago, at first I thought that I was just uncomfortable because the scar line was healing and pulling a little. Now I get pain so bad in my incision line when I am at work that I have to go sit down so that I dont fall over. Has anyone else had problems after their surgery? I am so bummed out because I thought that I was finally putting all of this behind me.

Hi Robin! My name is Rachel and I wrote in just above you. Yes, I had surgery for removal of an endometrioma last April and I have MANY sore spots that I've just noticed in the last 3 months. They seem to be getting worse on a daily basis. I'm going for a laparoscopy in the next month or so...hopefully! Do you just have one sore area or a whole bunch? I can feel mine just under the skin some of them, they are even on my ribcage and back...how weird is that?

Ironic thing is my surgeon called me yesterday saying he was paged to my number which he was not......and he asked how I was doing etc...I told him fine great, I am a new person. Then last night I had some burning and the scar seems really hard. BUu it went away and this time I am truely hopeing that that was really scar tissue this time. I will pray for all you girls still going through this.

Hi. I have had four csections and am pregnant now with my 5th child. I know all about c-section pain. I constantly have a pulling pain on my left lower side (along the scar line). Sometimes I want to cry if I move in an uncomfortable position.
I do know what it is though, it is adhesions. After my 2nd section, i was told I had a lot od scar tissue and when I had my 3rd c-section they did a lysis of adhesions which helped tremendously. I plan to request having this done with this baby to alleviate the pain.

Hi everyone. I just got my results from my FNA biopsy, and sure enough - endometriosis was indicated in the ma__s cells. I just want to thank you all for sharing your experiences, because it really helped me in deciding what to do. I know my first message was VERY long (sorry about that), but I too just wanted to share my experience, in case others are going through the same thing. All I can say is that you know your body better than anyone else, so follow your insticts. Thanks again! And to those still in pain - I hope it gets better for you.
