What would be my options if I got pregnant again? I've had 5 babies already, 4 va___al, but my last one was emergency csection due to a sudden, complete placental abruption. I live in rural Minnesota and our local hospital says no VBAC. The nearest VBAC hospital is 45 minutes away. Can a hospital actually make you have a csection? Don't you have to sign a consent form before they do it? I don't know because last time there wasn't time for anything. My poor husband didn't even know I was going into surgery at first. People were running down the hall. It was nuts! So what happens if you say no thank you and don't sign the form. Don't I have the freedom to choose how to have my baby?

i think the question you ask is valid -
it being -- "Don't I have the freedom to choose how to have my baby?" ===== but i think the more important question to ask is - do i want to risk another abruption / or something else that could be life threatening to my baby vs. having another c section? -------- i think in the end you will agree that the safety and health of your unborn (should you choose to get PG again) will win out over the thought of c section vs. vbac. --------- there aer so many reasons why an entire hospital will NOT do a vbac. plus if you look at the stats - they say that once you have had a c section - or prior pregnancies - or any surgery on your cervix - there are higher chances of complications or risks -- (placenta previa being one -- which will eliminate the need for a choice - you'll get a repeact cesction anyhow if it is a (non marginal) previa). good luck!

Hi,
I was just browsing through the questions, seeing if anyone answered mine when I saw yours...I don't know how it is in Minnesota, but here in New Hampshire I'm finding that there seems to be a trend similar to what you're facing in relation to the number of Doctors and even Midwives denying VBACS. Here's what I DO know. Yes, you have to sign a consent form for a C-section to be perfomed on you...or someone can be enlisted to sign it for you if, for some reason, you are not able. I think the question for you is, how much do you really want it? The v____al birth, that is... If the answer is "a lot" then maybe you should just go with the hospital that's 45 minutes away. For my first delivery...36 hours followed by hasty c-section that was pretty much taken out of my hands as well!--I went to a hospital that was about 50 minutes from where I lived and just prepared well in advance! Only you can determine how comfortable you are with that plan...but since you have had four other v____al births before, maybe you should just weigh your options. I don't know how I feel about what I'm going to do for my next one yet (my midwives say that their policy is to allow a woman to try VBAC after ONE c-section delivery....my sister's physician denies any VBAC's at all) but I do know that it's nice to have the option! Good luck!
