Tubes Tied -pg115195387518

If I have a c section on the 18th, I am going to get my tubes tied. Obviously no-one would be in here, if they've had their tubes tied, but I was just wondering if anyone is thinking of also doing this at the same time, or if anyone has heard of any reasons why or whynot to do this at the same time.

Keli--I have had 4 c-sections and did have my tubes tied at my last section. There is no reason why not to get them tied when you are having your section as you are opened up already. I had no complications with having both done at the same time and there was not any more discomfort from having them done at the same time either.

Keli, I had my letter written as proof I requested tubal ligation (for my insurance company) at the beginning of my third trimester. I think it's a good idea to get it done as long as you're right on the table and sure you're done with this baby making thing. I'm most certainly sure and all scheduled for it. Go for it if that's what you want to do. As long as you're healing anyway, it's just another thing healing at the same time. I don't have any cons against it.

Keli, I had my tubes tied during my 3rd c-section w/ no problems- recovery was the same as my previous two C's.

I've heard that your periods get way heavy after you get your tubes tied, is that true ?

sahmof3 - July 5

Hmmm... don't know about that. I've only had three so far in this year since #3's birth. They were light, then ridiculously heavy ( I swear I couldn't even leave the house) then light again. BUT, I've had abnormally heavy periods before the tubal. I did see my doctor about the really heavy one because it affects quality of life (lol) and was given an ultrasound, will get the results on the 12th, so I'll have to see if it could have anything to do with the tubal or not??

sahmof3---let us know if they think the tubal has anything to do with heavy periods. I too had a tubal after my 4th section, but am b___stfeeding and haven't had a period yet. Would be interested to hear what the outcome is?

My dr said +the reason people say that, is because they are used to being on the pill, and that decreases your periods up to 50%. And when they go off the pill, and get their tubes tied, their peroids are heavier.

sahmof3 - July 10

Renea, I'll let you know- my appt. is on Wednesday. I was never on the pill, so for me that's not a factor, but I do have a family history (my mom, aunt and grandmother) of women who's periods get heavier and heavier until they need early (30's) hysterectomies because their periods became constant- YAY!?! That's why I'm getting this checked now. I'll let you know...

Ranea and Keli- I asked my doc today if heavy periods can be caused by a tubal and he said it's being widely debated right now, as is something called Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome. They are starting to do more studies on it. Today I had to have an endometrial biopsy (routine b/c soon I'll have a procedure that burns and sheds the endometrium and hopefully I'll never have a period again!!) UGH, that biopsy felt like my cervix did in labor when the gave me Cervadil!!

i would love to get my tubes tied...unfortunatly my hospital is ran by nuns and they wont allow this to happen at the hospital...we are no longer allowed to have tubed tied or circ_mcisions done in the hospital isnt that rediculous..i mean this is my 3rd baby and i think it is my choice noone elses...good luck`

sahmof3 - July 13

AmyB- I just heard of this from my one friend. I was just talking to her last week and she said something about not being able to get her tubes tied because she delivered at a Catholic hospital. Her DH had to find a doctor and get snipped (the way it should be anyway- hehe)! Can you go to any other hospital to have it done?

lovemy3 - July 13

hi there, i have 3 sections and are ttc#4. If that happens I think we're planning on having my tubes done. I am also interested in hearing the pros and tghe cons. I was told one of the pros is that it reduces your chance of ovarian cancer quite dramatically, how I'm not sure but I asked an gyn/oncl at a seminar. I did read though that ves. have a higher rate of success as far as future pregnancies. I DEFINATELY don't want more than 4 sections.

AmyB - July 13

sahmof3 you know we thought about going to another hospital but it is 30 minutes away and my doc couldnt deliver me there..so i dont think i want to do that...i like to my doc! so we are doing the same and dh will be snipped! it is just hard that way b/c i am a stay at home mom and he makes the money and he will have to take time off of work to do it...

sahmof3 - July 13

I know what you mean. My dh was only able to take one day off of work with my last two c-sections (he got a whopping two days off for our first- one whole day when I was in labor and the next day while I was recovering from the overnight c-section!). Any days off really hurt when you're a SAHM!!

kcll - July 18

I had my tubes tied after my second c-section. As already stated it really isn't any harder of recovery than a c-section alone. As far as bleeding my first period after my c-section was really heavy but my periods now are longer but not any heavier in fact it is actually lighter. I know everyone is different but this is my experience. I recommend it as long as you know all the facts and are ready to give up having other children.

Hey Keli- if you're still around and read this... I just thought about something a little funny about getting a tubal. On the consent form there's this long paragraph about how you need to understand this procedure is only for those that never want any more children, you MUST understand the permanance of it, etc... it goes on and on. Then the next paragraph said you MUST understand that people have been known to get pregnant after a tubal and you MUST understand that 1 in XXX (I forget the exact number) will get pregnant. Just thought I'd share- I found that amusing!!
