mellycat - i had to have a csection after 15 hours of labor and i am definitely having another one. as long as your doctor and the anesthesiologist do everything right and you follow dr's orders its not so bad. i had the epidural before i knew i had to have a section and they put the catheter in then. they touched me and made sure i couldnt feel anything before they put in the catheter, they have to do that when you have an epi anyways. then for the section they gave me more meds, i was totally totally numb, and 18 minutes from when i went into the operating room my hubby was holding baby. the only thing that sucked is that i was getting ma__sive ma__sive tremors i think from the numbing meds, but i get tremors at the dentist too from novocaine so that probably wont happen to you if you dont tremor at the dentist. the second the baby came the tremors started to ease up and by the time i got to my room they werent bad at all. as for your other questions, the catheter goes in your pee hole, and if done right you wont feel it. i had an IV port put in as soon as i got to the hospital and they put it in my wrist so that i could have use of my hand because you have to be in the hospital for a few days after your section. also, afterwards my dr connected my IV to this b___ton that gave me morphine every time i pushed it. it ewas awesome. getting out of bed the first time is going to SUCK, my dr made me get out of bed 6 hours after the section and took out the catheter and as soon as you pa__s gas theylll let you eat solid foods again. thats about it! but it wasnt all bad. youll be ok. if you think youre gonna need a section follow your instinct because i thought so too and my dr said she didnt think id need one but i was right. mothers know these things.

Hi there.. Its me again. Just went for my big scan yesterday.. Im 23 weeks now and as I suspected the midwife said that the baby is already big! Its a girl!! She said that her legs are already a week ahead of what they should be so I think she'll be a tall baby. Everything else is perfect. I spoke to the midwife about my decision for a caesarean and she totally agreed with me. She said that she recommends that I have one so looks like my minds made up! Ill keep you all up to date. Thx xxx

The epidural is inserted while you are under epidural (was in my case), and is not painful. When it is removed it is kind of like a burning sensation, like urinary tract infection. When they put the spinal tap in, they only swab the area. It kind of feels like your knuckles rubbing together, but a bit more intense. TRY NOT TO MOVE!!! I flinched cause i was in the middle of a contraction when they were inserting it. I had a drip with fluid and oxytocin. The fluid because i was dehydrated, and the oxytocin because i was being induced. This was done before the epidural, at the start of the birth day. Good luck.

Why would you opt electively for a cesarean? Are you saying that by choice you prefer major surgery (yes, cesarean is major surgery) instead of a v____al birth. People don't realize this. Cesarean delivery may be a "walk in the park" compared to a v____al delivery, but that is just the delivery part. The recovery is MUCH longer than a v____al birth, and your risk of complications are greater than with a v____al birth. Obviously if it is medically necessary to have a cesarean, then there is no choice, but to opt for one as you put it, you should really do your research before making this decision. I am not trying to judge you here, but you should be fully aware of everything before you "opt" to have surgery. Go through the posts on this forum, there are some very informative information about cesareans.

I got an iv right before my spinal. they numbed the area where they insert the needle. It doesn't hurt, just feels weired/ackward. After that they but the catheter in. I didn't feel it because I was numb. After the c-section the first day i could not walk and the second day they made me walk to the washroom where they pulled the catheter out which really hurt. I cried. I cried when I had to walk to the washroom. I cried a lot actually. I was in a lot of pain because I wouldn't take the pain killers. I was b___st feeding and even though it was ok, my instincts said not to.

I, too wonder why you are opting for a c-section. I have had 3 myself for medical reasons and really didn't want to go that route. However, I feel like I did get off easy as far as working to get the baby born. A c-section IS major surgery and there are many risks attached which your doctor will most likely discuss with you. If you think that you can't perform the labor, think again. Your body knows what to do and you won't be in the same mindset that you are in now. There are risks both ways but for the most part once the baby is here the pain is mostly over with a v____al birth. You get to enjoy your baby and not worry about taking care of your incision. With a c-section you will have a lot of recovering to do, expecially if you have complications. I've been blessed to have my mother help me with each birth because you will not be aloud to lift anything but your baby, you can't drive for 10 days, and you'll have doctors appointments to go to in that first week. Also, surgery puts you at risk for infection and not just right away. Also think about the risks of repeat c-sections or VBAC (v____al birth after delivery). Uterine rupture is my main concern and I have been restricted from getting pregnant for 2 years to avoid it. Also, I have just been told that the new recommendation limit for c-sections is 3. That would mean that I'm done although I will be trying for one more. It really all comes down to you, but be sure that you are 100% comfortable with your decision. Either way, your child will be the joy of your life. I hope that whatever you choose you will be happy with this new life.

Just because one thing worked for your mom, doesn't mean it will for you. You may have similar bodies but you are individual... my mom had 2 hrs of labour with me, 3 with my sister & 4 with my other sister - and she gave birth v____ally with all three. I had to have an emergency c-section & they told me because of the shape of my pelvis, I can't deliver v____ally... so I wouldn't rely on the fact that you've had similar complications to judge whether or not the birth will go well.

Hi ladies. I am having a planned c-section on July 27th. I think there are two types of c-sections (both of which have thier own happy & horror stories). Planned c-sections are much different then emergency c-sections. People still have horror stroies with planned c-sections, but more often I hear happy stories. My first c-section was planned to, they estimated my son was over 10 lbs and I have back problmes, so they did not want me pushing. I considred a VBAC deliver with this baby but I have a subchorionic hematoma (tear in the placenta) so that option is now gone. So I am doing the planned c-section again. I can only imagine how scary it is to go through labor for hours and still have to have a section. For me it was great and I am excited about it again. I healed up really quick with my son. The one thing I can say is take the pain meds they offer, don't try and be a martyr. Also, the first time they say you should get up, get up, the sooner you do, the sooner you heal. My SIL had an emergency section and like someone else her wond opened up and got infected. But on the otherhand my other SIL torn whlie in labor from one end to the other and that got infected and she was on heavy antibiotics. Good luck everyone who has had a c-section and it is scary, I am scared and I already had one. But it is safest for my baby.
