i had an emergency c section. i think in all honesty it was bought on by intamacy with my partner and doing a position that pulled too hard on my tummy. at the time i stopped as knew something had happenned at the time due to sharp pain in my tummy. my advice is to be careful with that. although i had the c section and it was because she was breach but it was not extremely painful like a lot of people say but rather painful but manageable pain. i was sore but walking the next day and to be honest, if it gets your baby into the world safe and without trauma, then so be it. I figure, what is a bit of pain if your baby is okay.l would not be scared as the needle takes all pain away and you are over it within a few days anyway. by about day 4 i was fine and now my tummy is as flat as ever and just the scar has a bit of healing to do. so try to enjoy your pregnancy and not worry about which way it goes.

Julia--the second the Dr. told me to go straight to the hospital for a c-section (due to very low amniotic fluid), I started crying. That was the last thing I wanted. The baby was also breach. As it turns out, the surgery nor the recovery was nearly as bad as I had expected. I will be having a 2nd c-section in June. It also turns out that the baby had a heart problem, so the stress of him being a v____al delivery could have been more traumitizing for him. Everything happens for a reason!!! Good luck to you.

Hi Ladies! I know that the most important thing is to get a healthy baby here and I appreciate your comments. I am glad all of your babies are okay :-) I hear that the c-sections aren't always as bad as we imagine, but I am really worried about help the first couple of weeks (little is available) and to the long-term effects of surgery. I am reading a couple of really good books and taking care of my health. I am truly concerned about what c's do to your insides however, and from the reading I've done, it appears a lot of c-sections aren't really necessary and may be caused by interventions! I understand the breech babies, medical complications c's, but there are some situations I have observed in my own life where it was cut first and ask questions later and I want to avoid doing that.

Hey Julia, my first was a c-section due to a ridiculous fear of labor and v____al delivery. I somehow got the impression from those baby shows that only the vag birth moms suffered, for they never show the c-section moms right after surgery or during the surgery when things don't go well. Anyhow, I had the c-section, it hurt like murder, for a long time and I swore I wouldn't do it again! So I caused my first one, along with baby shows!!! With my second and third born only a year apart I had v____als and they were no piece of cake, but certainly not like a "real-life" c-section without the editing! I hope you don't have a c-section.

Hello. I firmly believe my c-section was the result of a cavalier att_tude towards female reproductive surgeries. My labor stalled at 7 cm for an hour, but was starting to pick up again when people left me to rest and collect myself. By then some imaginary time frame had been breached and in comes my OB and his a__sistant declaring "c-section" time due to some ridiculous declaration of "failure to progress". By the time they had the OR set up and all things ready for surgery I had gone to 8.5 cm! I thought it was a done deal and got bullied into an unecessary c-section. If it would do any good, I would bring my doctors up before a review board so they can explain why they were so quick to cut. My entire labor up until the section was 14 hours, not unrealistic for a first birth with an average sized baby. My son had wet lungs because he didn't pa__s through the birth ca___l and I did not enjoy my post-op recovery period. I shan't do this again unless real medical conditions exist.

i was very big i gained 5 stone so i had a feeling i would not be having a v____al birth. during labour i was fine until i started to push the baby was in destress and had turned slightly on his side so he could not come down after 15 hours labour 1 hour pushing i had to have csection which i felt cheated by i was given an epidural which never worked as when they started to cut i felt everything and was put to sleep then i wasnt allowed to see him for another 2 hours as he had breathing problems so i missed everything i waited for that precious moment taken away as later i found out i was left to long and if i had been on the drip earlier i might have had a more comfortable birth and even v____al. all i can say is i know when your in pain you dont want to be asking question but do as you dont want to be in labour for hours just for them to say you will have to have a section. worst is there is nothing you can do to prevent it the baby as a mind of its own and the doctors should give the right medication when needed.

I felt my baby turn breech about 10 days before she was born. I told my OB what had happened at my next (& last) visit. She FELT WITH HER HANDS & told me that I was mistaken & that she was not breech. "Here’s her bottom.” Shaking the hard lump under my left b___st & “here’s the head”, with the same shaking thing … down by my business. Then she told me, “Trust me. I've been doing this for X amount of years ... this is your first baby ... blah, blah, blah." Fine. I believed her. My water broke on a Sunday (LABOR DAY weekend) … the day before I was due & two days before I was scheduled for an induction. After I was slapped on a pitocin drip & had over six hours of intense, kick-b___t labor (without an epidural) the nurses & the doctor on call told me, “Your baby is breech. FRANK BREECH.” (B___t first.) And since there was no water left to turn her in, the surgery team was called in to get the baby out. To this day it honks me off. I wanted to have a natural birth without pain meds. Didn’t happen! Just think … if only my (ex) doctor had listened to ME & done a simple ultrasound.

Thank you Julia and all you wonderful ladies for this forum!!!! I have learned more from this thread than any other. So many ways a c-section can happen and why they might be GOOD things. I am glad to hear the not so good things too, so I will know more of what to expect on delivery day. I so understand the way the women feel who have some damage from them and I also enjoy hearing how the C's saved the health of the babies. I feel better about birth either way now.

May I first say, my wee bub is a Julia as well! My cesarean was caused by the need for me to give birth whilst on location for my hubby's film. I scheduled it while we were in a larger city rather than await natural labor in outlying regions of Thailand. I shan't have another when back home, for the experience is no longer for me. But it is survivable if one must go through it for a healthy bub. Blessings!

Hello! If you are given the choice really think carefully before agreeing to the section. Madonna and other famous women thought they were the "better" birth method and Madonna just had hernia surgery. Hernias are a common side effect of weakened, cut abdominal muscles. Yes, some of them are cut! My section was due to prolapsed cord, aside from hemorrhaging, the second most potentially fatal complication during labor.

First baby was breech so a c-section. Second c-section was FORCED on me because I didn't know enough to say I had a right not to be cut open. If my first baby hadn't been breech my doctor said I would probably have done just fine. When I had my son last summer the rules were changed to prevent liability for the 1% of VBAC problems. My doctor said she feels so badly for women now, that instead of choice, c-section moms are being robbed of choice. I am done for I don't want another c-section EVER!

Hi, I have two children. The first one I had naturally, 8lbs 3oz. The second one I had to have a c-section, 9lbs 8oz. My due date was Oct. 29th, I was a week late and my doctor made me get another sonogram to see what size baby she was going to be. The sonogram said that she could be a 9lb 14oz baby. My doctor told me that the shoulder blades were to long in width and there is a fear of her getting stuck. I don't know, I wish my doctor could have induced me earlier. I did everything right. I exercised and I ate good. I only gained 27lbs. So you can see where all the weight went.

mine was caused by neglect i was not but on the drip sooner so i was in labour for 15 hours pushed for 2 then had to have c section as the baby was distressed and had turned on to his side. i feel i was cheated i was then put to sleep as i could feel them cutting and i did not c my son for 1 hour as he had breathing problems. julia if you feel you r gettin noway when in labour make sure u ask if u are recieving the right care 4 your stage of labour as a first time mum i thought everything was fine until the room was full of doctors and one in pacticular who was very nice to me said to the midwife why have i been left so long without the drip. i believe if i had had that earlier maybe i would have had normal birth and would not have a saggy tum.
