Part of my incision is a little bit swollen and red. The rest is flat and not red or irritated at all. Anyone know if that's a sign of infection? I am not sure how urgent of a problem it is, if it is aproblem at all. Thanks a lot!

It is entirely possible to have an inflammitory response without infection, but if it starts to seep, turns an angry red or begins to cause you major pain you should get to your doctor quickly!!

Hi Jessica, if you have like Frances said, and then you get pain that becomes unreasonable for the amount of pressure you are applying and/or you start running a temp or getting chills get to your doctor ASAP and do not take a pat answer from him/her. If you start to feel infected, demand a culture be done immediately for HA-MRSA and/or CA-MRSA infection. This is a fast moving infection that makes you ill very fast. It is common in surgery patients and getting more common all the time. Not trying to scare you, but definately trying to spare you! Some of my patient's were phoo-fooed by their doctors or given the wrong antibiotics and ended up with experiences they didn't need to have.
