Hi! I am Amy, 12 w 3d with my 2nd pregnancy. I met with my Dr. on Wednesday and she said that a healthy weight gain for a women with my BMI (I started my pregnancy overweight, and still had 20 lbs to go to my pre pregnancy weight from my 1st baby) was only 10 - 15 lbs! This seems like so little, since I gained 55lbs with my first baby. So far, I haven't gained, in fact I have lost 4.5lbs, but I was in my first trimester, and I know most of the gain usually occurs in the later months. I just don't know how I am going ot stick to this recommendation. I am trying not to stress over it, but I really want a healthy pregnancy. (Last time I developed pre-eclampsia, and had to be induced a week early.) Any ideas or thoughts to share? Positive ones only please. :)

In fact why do you think you have to gain more than 15 pounds...? Gaining 55 is really way too much--as you can also see in the difficulty shedding the last 20 pounds. If you actually take into account how much the baby, placenta, fatty deposits, blood, water and all the bare necessities of pregnancy, that puts you at around 15 pounds anyway. Really eat healthy for ONE and you should be fine. Good luck!

PS You are more likely to get pre eclampsia if you are over weight.
