I was just diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I have an appointment with a dietician tomorrow. I'll let you know something after that. I'm wondering myself.

Well, I am borderline gestational. My dietician put me on an 1800 calorie diet. Everyone's different so you may need to be on the 2000 calorie diet. Anyway, she said it's best, obviously, to stay away from straight sugar. The main thing I'm watching is the total carbs. Everyday, I have to have breakfast, a morning snack, lunch, an afternoon snack, dinner, and an evening snack. It's really not that bad. It's just watching what you're having and how much. It's hard when you have to grab something quick. Home cooked meals are better than anything. Stay away from pizza. She said that's one of the worst things you can have. I can't have any juices, which surprised me, because I drink a lot of OJ. And don't have any milk for breakfast. I know, that's just not right, but it has a lot of sugar in it. I'm gonna try and look up the website I went to. It gave some different suggestions on what was good to eat. If I can find it, I'll give it to you. Hope all is going well.

If you really are craving pizza, it's not totally forbidden - you just have to make some adjustments. Ask for a whole wheat, thin crust, go very easy on the cheese, and the toppings should be lots of healthy veggies. Whole wheat is low on the glycemic index, and little bit of cheese will not do you any harm. Other good meals are stir-frys with brown or basmati rice, whole wheat pasta with a healthy sauce, grilled chicken or fish with veggies, etc. I would never cut out your carbs completely since you need them for a balanced diet, but try not to eat white, processed carbs - stick to whole grains, and brown rice and pasta. And smaller but more frequent meals will also help to even out your blood sugar levels. Good luck!!
