Echinacea During Pregnancy

Hi everyone, I am about 5 weeks pregnant and have come down with a small cold, sore throat, runny nose and occasional coughing. I was an echinacea user before getting pregnant and swear by it. I read the label and it said do not use if pregnant but I contacted my midwife and she said as long as there is no Goldenseal in it there is no real risk. So what I did was buy an echinacea tea and drink one during the day to help boost my immune system. I refuse to use over-the-counter medicines, too many chemicals. Has anyone taken echinacea and had bad side effects towards the baby??? Any input would be great :)

If you look up on this very website (or is it pregnancy nutrition site?) you can see a list of safe herbs to use in pregnancy. Echinacea is one of those listed as safe to use. The only medicine Drs seem to prescribe is paracetamol for illness in pregnancy. I agree with you though, that it is best to avoid medicine completely when pregnant if possible.
