i just had a wrap with meunster cheese on it and then found out that meunster is one of the semi-soft cheeses you shouldn't have. do you think i did anything to the baby, i'm 8 weeks.

Hi - February 11

I wouldn't worry, one time isn't going to do anything. I think I had it too when I was in the first trimester. I'm 37 weeks and all is well!

The worry with soft cheeses is the possible presence of Listeria bacteria. If you become ill a few days after eating a "forbidden food" then you want to go to the doctor and get tested and treated since Listeria can cause MC. However, if the cheese is pasturized you are probably ok. The is the same reason why no pregnant women should eat deli meat or cheeses, or anything sliced on a deli slicer (the slicers harbor the bacteria if not cleaned well). If you did not get ill after a few days you are probably fine. Just avoid the deli stuff from now on. Good luck.

Cream cheese is pasturized, isn't it? We're really talking about the fancier/ European soft cheeses, right?

I've been eating meunster cheese for the entire 27 weeks I've been pregnant and evrything is just fine. Don't worry so much. ; )
